Looking for previous owner

I am going this weekend to purchase a car, after some research I found the previous owner on here. Not much info from him though on the board so I was hoping someone knows the owner before him. I am trying to research as much as I can, I have found out a few things but would like more. It has been a Florida car its entire life. The rims are still on the car but now black, they will be the first thing to go after all reliability is taken care of, 19" is just to big. Any info would be wonderful.

Gary

Here is a link to the car when the previous owner was selling it, I am looking for the owner before him.

I am having someone from Maztech go check out the car, but a couple things on the carfax worry me like

08/18/2008 64,329 Florida
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Boca Raton, FL
Title #0066649141 Title issued or updated
New owner reported
Vehicle color noted as Black

I know the tech they send can check the door for the color code, but I also noticed that the previous owner said something about a repaint. It doesn't scare me much, especially since I am sure the tech can tell me quite a bit especially if it is worth it or not. But I can use the repaint as a tool to get some off since when I called the dealer he told me its original paint, which I am sure its not.

A repaint can often be a good thing, Mazda's stock paint job was pretty lousy on the FD.

That Carfax entry is nothing to be concerned with, that just shows the title was issued probably after it was sold and they noted the color of the car, which is typically on the title.

Now if the color was CHANGED that is another thing. But that will usually be very obvious as soon as you pop the hood.

I believe you can put the VIN in Mazda's owner website and get the original color, trim, etc. from them.

Yeah a repaint in the same color will not bother me at all, I was curious if the color was changed. I will check out the Mazda's owner website to see what I can find. I am trying to find someone who will go check the car out for me in Tampa and pay for it just for a bit more on the car before I drive 4 hours to pick it up.

Awesome advice Dale, registered on MyMazda, put the VIN in and it came up with some of the info I was after. It was originally black/black 5-spd, so that is good. About to wire them a down payment to hold the car till Saturday

Looks like a GREAT deal.

Mileage alone can almost justify the price. I paid a little more about a year ago for similar mileage / condition.

Good Luck.

The dealership is selling it for $14k, there is a dent in the driver front fender and it has 75k miles now. I know I am gonna pay a little bit more being at the dealer, but it has all the options I am looking for. I am hoping I can get the price down a little bit because of the dent but we shall see. I am willing to pay the price for a well taken care of rex, just trying to find out what I can before hand.

Never seen that car before in my life down here in MIA.

The paint job (well the clearcoat) from Mazda was pretty crappy and justification for refinisihing
Most people repaint their 7's because there are a lot of interesting colors out there now.

Yeah it was a Miami/Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale care for most of its life, had the engine replaced at Pettit and some other work. I will most likely pick this car up, I am just doing research for my own knowledge about the history of it.

The car looks very familiar to me. 2 1/2 years ago when I was looking for an FD, I went to Palm Beach to look at one that looked VERY similiar to this one. The wheels are the one item that stuck out like a sore thumb. It was at a shop in a warehouse district that looked very shady. After looking the car over from the outside, I walked away from it without even test driving it. It was that disappointing...

About 6 months later, after purchasing my FD, I stopped by Pettit Racing to buy some stuff. During a tour of their facilities, I noticed the same black FD from my earlier search sitting in the back and recognized it right away. In casual conversation with Cam, I inquired about the car and he informed me that someone had recently purchased it and that the motor was no good. He went on to say that it was going to be repaired so that the new owner could get rid of it because he was unhappy with the purchase. Man was I glad I passed on it...

Based on that insight....I can only say to PLEASE take this with a grain of salt as I am not 100% positive it is the same car...

I am just informing you of what I remember..as the car looks familiar to me..

Joe

Hey Gary, I know the car

I don't know the previous owner though, but I saw the car every day because he lives like 2 blocks from where I work. So I can tell you exactly where he lives. IDK if you would be too creeped out by knocking on the guys door to ask him, lol.

Anyway PM me and I'll give you the details if you want to follow up

I am pretty sure it is the same car, earlier today I called Pettit about it. She was gonna ask Cam when he got back if he remembered it, I told her the most distinguishable feature were those god awful 19 inch gold rims. They are painted black now, the guy who sold it last posted his number on here, I might give him a call for more info.
