SGS will not be able to give you an accurate report on the state of the RX7. I agree with others that this may not end well... look local and make sure it gets inspected by a reputable shop with RX7 experience

Well, we don't have a shop, but that hasn't stopped us from building our own cars. I have talked to my builder, and he knows the guy. I told him you were interested, but that you needed more info. It shouldn't be long now before I know more. I'm gonna try and ride and see it this weekend, I have a nice camera that needs to be used, so I'll carry it with me.

LOL, Just to clarify, The SILVER/BLACK is not the original car of this post. The ODO HOE, is not the car in question.

jerij, pm me if you'd like, and I'll give you my cell #. That way I can keep you more informed.

I'm told the car has no registration nor insurance so it can't be test driven.

OK, start it up and drive it in the driveway.
Why would you not have the registration?

Ok this whole thing reaks with the essence of a bad transaction... In several levels too.

1. They could be shady and don't want you to know about it:

a. without driving the car how can you assure that there isn't something wrong?
b. Can't seem to tow it to get it inspected either.
c. Most sellers are very accomodating becasue they want get rid of the car. That is unless they have something to hide.

2. They may be legit but are just real careless people.

a. Do you really want to buy a car from someone that does not take the necessary preparations to be able to sell the car?
b. The car has to be test driven for them to get their money right? Yet they still let the registration go.
c. Since they let the registration go. What do you think they let go on the actual vehicle itself? a LOT of things would be my assumption. People who are on the ball with things are usually that way in all aspects of their life.

3. What is the real reason the car is not registered? and additional money that may still be needed...

a. Is it non opt? or does it have accrued registration fees because they just simply never renued nor declared the car a non opt to the DMV.
b. If you buy the car and then try to register it guess who pays for the accrued fees? yeah you...
c. Smog... Also if you buy it prior to being smogged guess who is stuck with that problem. uhmn not them.

Dude I say run from these people.

Time for an update. Hopefully sometime this week I'll be able to secure payment to a car I've won on She-bay in Rockford, Ill. Fortunately my nephew lives 15' away and is able to do the footwork for me. I'm currently on a cruise in Alaska and the seller isn't exactly being accomodating of my inablilty to be "on hand".

It's a '93, silver/red (automatic unfortunately), with 12500 miles. I think it's just about as close to what I was looking for as I will get!

Can't wait to get off this boat and get my car in my garage!

Huge bright red flag for me right there, let alone the lack of reg and insurance. Walk away and find another FD, there are plenty of great deals on this forum.

It was hard to believe the car was as neglected as it was. It had been sitting outside for quite some time, obviously not covered. Fortunately, for the most part, it has cleaned up extremely well.

It had a lot of "little" things wrong with it. I have fixed most. There are a couple of major issuses, A/C, no reliability mods, shift lock malfunction, and the "no" crank/inhibitor switch issue. I'll get to them in time...

Overall, I'm very pleased with the car. It's been my dream vehicle since I first saw one at the Memphis Auto Show way back....
