Good Price on a 88 RX-7
I'm new to the RX-7 world.... I've been a Miata owner till now. I want to know what a good price for a '88 RX-7 Conv. would be? If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.

It really depends on the condition of the car. Most 'verts hold their value a bit better than the comparable coupes, too.
Anywhere from $1500 for one that starts, runs and drives but with a raggedy top and seats, and poor paint. High end of $4000 for one that's in excellent shape, garage kept, etc.
You can always go lower with a blown engine, bad tranny, etc.
My roommate just got an '88 'vert, and they're an absolute blast.
I don't think they made 'em, but avoid automatic trannies - I'm assuming since you're coming from a Miata background you're above them, but Mazda did a horrible job on the auto tranny - they're junk. If they're not broken yet, they will be soon. I know they made autos on the '89-91 'verts, but I don't think they did in '88.

An AUTO tranny.... you must be outside you're mind.... as you can see I am very above that. I am probably the only 21 year old Miata driver, and I like to feel the car, not play some video game. Thanks for the help... I have to go look at the car, but I think I will be getting it, we'll see how it holds up against my Miata.

The 'verts are one of the heavier RX-7's and they're not as light as the Miata, but they're definitely fun. Mazda did a slick job engineering the top mechanism as well, and the chassis has been stiffened up a lot to account for the lack of roof.
Anyhow, I'd be interested to hear what your opinion is on the 'vert from a Miata point of view. BTW, they're also REAL easy cars to work on, and parts are plentiful and inexpensive for the most part.
Good luck,
Dale

They are NOT as "tossable" as the Miata, they feel a lot bigger and heavier- because they are. They have a VERY stiff chassis for a convertible. They're underpowered though- the Miata is quicker... be prepared to do some mods to make it perform equal to the Miata... both from a power perspective, AND from a handing perspective. It looks a lot "sexier" though, and has a lot more room.
