I was going to rig-up an old rear wiper reservoir and pump to spray water on to my SMIC using a drip irrigation mister nozzel. I have all the parts, I just haven't gotten around to installing it.

nice FD! i hear they work pretty good and i know there out there for sale. i seen one on a site once but there no longer there. i was going to use my washer fluid bottle too but finding a mister is a little difficult. where did you get a mister? i was just thinking of using a pair of washer nozzles like off the hood.. not really mist but would probably do the job..

here's my FD, soon to paint the CF hood

I just built my intercooler sprayer and the spray pattern is damn near perfect! it completely covers the intercooler and the pump is powerfull enough to handle maybe three sprayers for larger intercoolers. this is a must for hot areas. in austin today it was over 100! all i did was go down to pepboys (yes i'm sad) and a little free time at work (lowes home improvement) and about fives minutes. vuala! the only problem is now where to mount the water at. I'm thinking about a 1 gallon jug in the storage compartment. the list of parts is pretty small. 1 generic windshield washer pump(gmc truck) 23.00 you'll need two differant sizes of line 5/16 clear and i think it's 1/4 clear. and a 180 degree sprinkler sprayer nozzel. i'm waiting to install it for real untill i can mount the water bottle. I'll keep the pump in the car near the water to help keep it cool and it just sounds cool. I'd like to mount the switch hidden James Bond style. but here is a pic of it put together but not installed. maybe this weekend i'll hook it up. if ya'll have any other questions about this mod or other intake cooling ideas i spend lots of time thinking about them, pm me. i hope this helps.

i got them at Lowes in the sprinker section. they come in a pack of like 10 or 20. you might want to use a 90degree elbow to mount the sprayer to the intercooler shroud. i forgot to mention how i test fitted the sprayer. i used the intercooler mounting bracket to hold the waterline to the nozzel and i'd drill a couple of holes and use zip ties to hold the last bit of line to the hole ontop of the showd. i'll post pics tomarrow. also you might want to use some small zip ties or epoxy to keep the connections from getting hot and coming loose. i found that the hole on top of the shrowd is perfect to mount the sprayer because you really don't have to do much modifaction and the air damn thingy helps to make it stealth. i've heard of people useing methynol and water to cool the intercool but it's explosive and it could cause an incident. co2 sprayers are sweet but you might suck in c02 into the intake and kill any performance gains. but this set up is pretty simple and reliable.

For those of us that are less monster garage inclined, you must do a full write up with pics.

What about buying a Nitrous Oxide system? I know atleast NX sell N-tercooler kits designed to cool down the intake air..

They are not expensive, and they are kinda safer than using nitrous to boost performance.

They act almost like a waterspray system, cooling down the intercooler under heavy load..

You can find small spray heads with different degrees of fan pattern at a sprinkler supply. They'll have them with nipples down to 1/4 barb for tubing and work great, very cheap and you can try different fan widths till you find what works best. I'll see if i can get exact part numbers/ store names to find them at. Jack

I have a link on my home computer to a how-to posted on this site some time back. I used the rear washer fluid and ran a line all the way to the engine to spray the intercooler. Only problem which I have to yet fix, is once you use it, it all just drips out because of the height difference, despite having placed one way valves.

I'll look for the link tonight.

Its an easy fix. Go to a one way windshield wiper line ck valve for any 1st gen rx7. It should cost like $4. This will diffentatley stop the dips...

I always wanted to try this but won't the water get all into the engine bay causing rust and probally shorts? Not to mention all those FDs (including me) with the fully polished engine bays, wont it turn the aluminum to ****. It is a good idea though. Does anyone have exact figures or results? What I want is the water injection kit to the engine so I can run 30PSI on pump!

it should never touch the engine is the mist is right. it should just dry up the second it hits the IC if the mist is right. i uderstand what you mean tho.. i really dont think it would be a problem

i had this thing typed out and my battery died. damn it. i'll write a better how-to this weekend with step-by-step on how and why. but untill then a few more pics and some more info to keep ya waiting you can see the clear line running along my engine bay to the intercooler. that's pretty much the best way i've found for useing this on a stock mount. for a front mount you'll need to drill a few holes in the bumber to let the sprayers mount on the top. as you drive a 180 pattern will work better than a cone mister like the one on the that website, as the fine mist might get tossed around in the wind where a heaver flat type spray will go where you want it to go (front mount). you can see the +- terminals on the motor, and the in/out ports on the top of the pump. use a 20A fuse inline with the positive wire to protect your new investment. it's what the stock system is rated at and it's a good idea. i might end up using a braded stainless water line for fridges to run water to the sprayer, it's shiney and it might not get all flimsy. like i said i'll write a better how-to guide later. hope this helps. i'm suprised no one has made a macgyver reference on this yet.

well i think if you have a front mount IC it will be ok because the air from driving will push it through the IC.. i think if you use something with a heavier mist it will get to the motor and make that nice aluminum all corroded.. i actually found a site that was pretty good. the guy did a test with a heat gun and mounted it to the open end of the IC and used a infrared gun to measure the heat on the fins of the IC. he then sprayed water on it from a spray bottle and the temp dropped 5% and he was only using 1 nozzle. a spray bottle nozzle may be perfect because there adjustable..

if you can find a way to get that nozzel off and mounted it might work. just make sure that the washer pump has enough pressure to opperate that nozzel. you might also check out weed sprayer tips. the heat from the intercooler will evap the water almost instantly. i'll look into the cone type at work tomarrow. more to come in the next few days. you'll only be using the sprayer for a few moments at a time. the amount of water that might get onto your engine is less then when it rains!

i think the windshield washer pump will be plenty strong enough.
