My solenoid nipple broke off too. There are two sets of them underneath the manifold, right behind the pressure tank. What my mechanic did was sand off the broken solenoid surface, and found a drill bit roughly the same diameter as hole, drilled it out (to form smooth hole) and inserted a metal tube (roughly same size as previous nipple) as a nipple replacement. Hasn't fallen off yet! Good luck!

 

ok i think i found the real culprit. The black check valve coming off the MAP sensor doesnt seem to be working the way it should. They should only be one way right? It's letting air through both ways. I believe the check valve number is TD07, anyone know where I can find a cheap replacement?

I read the double throttle solenoid isnt even needed, so i dont think that one is the culprit. Gonna try and get it fixed though...I dont wanna pull off my entire solenoid rack just to get to the ****. I'll try doing what Redline did.. thats a good idea, thx

It's narrowed down to:

double throttle solenoid
check valve on the MAP sensor
engine

hopefully fixing one and two will be the end of the problems. Another excellent reason why we should all go non-sequential

 

the thing that your calling a check valve on the vacuum line going to the map sensor is actually a filter. It is suppost to flow both ways, with out alot of restriction.

 

I dont think the double throttle will mess up the car that bad since a lot of guys remove it... hmmm that only leaves a few more options... I think I will take you on your offer and check my compression

 

Yeah, the only thing a broken double throttle solenoid would do is create a vacuum leak, which would give you similar symtoms....however yours do sound more severe. You should just disconect and cap the vacuum signal going to the solenoid, the one with the check valve. Then the double throttle would just stay open.
As far as checking your compression... its time to face the facts. I'm totally down to give you a hand, unfortunitly I work Sunday thru Thursdays so I would'nt be available until thursday afternoon. Mean while check this link:

You might decide to do it yourself, remember what i said about video taping the gauge then playing it back in slow motion. It helped me alot when i did it. Those compression checkers are cheap, just dont forget to take out the check valve on the end of it.

The very same thing happened to mine @ 72k LAST WEEK !! The only difference is I was on my way home from the body shop, and OH DEAR GOD !! I am hoping it is this MAP Sensor hose which got knocked off when I got t-Boned. Will keep the group posted and really a big thanks to all for the suggestions on checking it out.

 

Well, the final verdict is looking grim. After work, I'm gonna be taking off my exhaust, intake and Power FC so I can return the car to stock. After eliminating all vacuum hose possibilities, I did the ATF trick and loaded the car with about 1/2 quart and it didnt do much after soaking for about 20 hours...car dies if i let off the gas... Car starts if I give it some gas, but it's still idling very rough. I'll know for sure when I put some fresh plugs in later tonight.

After doing the ATF trick, a lot of smoke was coming out of the turbos as well, so those may be gone.

Im gonna have the car towed to Rotary Power once im finished gathering receipts and finally make the call to the warranty people. If both the engine and turbos are shot as I suspect, It's gonna be time to street port and go Single (A'pexi IHI RX6)

Im also wondering if I got a really bad tank of gas...the car sounds like a V8 and it sounds like it's detonating. Hopefully my housings are intact after the teardown. I think I still have access to a spare blown 13B-REW, so I can probably scavenge the best parts of both engines to make one good one.

October was a really bad month for 3rd Gens, I think I read about quite a few people who popped their engines or got into an accident in the past few weeks. *makes a human sacrifice to the rotary gods* LAWD HAVE MERCY!!

tri point is closer to where you're at, but I take mine to Rotary Power... a lot less expensive and the same quality of work, if not better.

 

BlackR1, Any updates ? Curiuos to know what you ended up doing.

 

You are going through a lot of trouble to avoid testing the compression. A compression testor is cheap and it will take less than 10 min to check. Just pull out a plug, and screw the testor in. When I popped the motor in my 2nd gen, it was obvious - no compression in the rear rotor.

If the compression is ok, you will be relieved and can work from there.
