"limp mode" boost problems need help

My car is what i've heard to referred to as "limp-mode"
its breaks up around 5k rpm sometimes especially in WOT
or it pushes completely no boost at all, or it spikes 2-3lbs higher than it should

i changed the filter to the map sensor, still no go

i ran the ECU codes and got 13 and 16

16 i believe is just the O2 Sensor though? but i don't know if it has anything to do with it else where.
13 is: pressure sensor open or short circuit

any help would be awesome, i am going to try and leave a new map sensor as a last resort. don't feel like dumping a couple hundred if its not needed

Thanks Guys!

Code 16 is EGR. It's doubtful that one is really causing you any issues. Code 13 however, needs to be addressed. Have you followed the steps in the FSM for troubleshooting the pressure sensor yet?

ok so i fixed the original problem
i needed a map sensor
and i havent flushed the codes and re-ran them yet, but im getting boost
the problem now is im spiking boost 20+ constantly WOT, when i had it set for 10~12 orginally
and it hesitates to boost on moderate accel.
My mechanic said "maybe you need to mess with boost controller setting, since it sat so long with a dead battery, maybe something got reset or messed up"
Does that sound plausible or is it more likely something else?
Thanks

Stop pushing the car into boost befoe you blow the motor. A list of mods would help.

I'd recommend getting a new mechanic, sounds like your guy is blindfolded throwing darts at a board.

Where is the closest rotary specialty shop to you?

In his defense,
it was over the weekend when he wasnt working, and i was under the impression that even though he wanted to help, he didnt feel like spending the time. so he gave a easy plausible answer, that wouldnt take too much effort/work. I think i would of got a different answer if it was at the shop and during work hours. And he didnt have the car physically in front of him, just what explained
He is a rotor specialist and has worked for nasa etc etc and is EXTREMELY knowledge-able. i was just being an annoying ***** ;}

and its Zen Motors in Duluth, GA

and im not driving it, im in my moms van haha, :/

heres a bit of background:

It worked perfect about 6 month ago, until i had a front end accidenct, that damaged the rad, fans, oil coolers, bumper and driver side fender and hood, and some smaller things.
It has been in the shop since april, got it back in september, and thats when i had the map sensor problem and now thats fixed, at the shop i got new fans, i downsized because we decided we over did it, and i upgraded to a dual oil cooler, those are the only two new parts mod wise that were not already there before or replaced exactly.
it sat for 4 months at the shop, and the battery died during that period, before parts got here from japan, and the body shop did the mechanical replacement parts, the body shop owner has two nice FDs so i trust that was done right.

then the map sensor was replaced and im getting boost, but now we have the current problem, hopefully that helps?

any ideas, could the boost controller need to messed with, and if it is the boost controller, would turning it off and letting the waste gate control it prove whether it is the boost controller or not

MODS:
Koyo Rad (had same part before wreck)
Mishimoto Fans
AVC-R Boost Controller (had before wreck)
Mazda-trix dual oil cooler
Samco Hoses (had before wreck)
heat wrapped HKS DP to high flow cat and carbon hks muffler
5in muffler 3in from headers back
everything else is stock, nothing much different from stockk, or if it is its small reliability mods, like water pump and stuff but.

any help would be awesome, still haven't re-run the codes yet tho. i will tomorrow afternoon

Thanks Again,
Orrion

Just so you know, ditch whatever aftermarket fans you installed and buy a good set of stockers here on the forum. The stockers are the best fans for this car.

Disconnect the boost controller for now and run off the waste gate springs and the car should hit 7-8psi. If it is still boost spiking then there are other issues outside of the controller.

I was just in Woodstock on Monday too bad I didnt see the thread.

SERIOUSLY, COME ON MAN! haha jk
driving a 7?
and i have small dual mishimoto fans with a custom shroud and soon undertray. too much work to just get stockers

and so then if i unplug the controller like i said and it still spikes then its mechanical, and if it doesnt i need to mess with the settings right?

check to make sure your actuator hose didn't pop off too, if it did the wastegate wont be able to open

He's face palming about this^^^ and I agree with him 100%.

Too bad you missed DJSeven, he would've helped you out right on the spot. You're also not listening to the good advice given in this thread. Some have to learn the hard way, and with these cars it can spell disaster for your bank account

OK, so new update
just took it for a spin. turned the avc-r off

its running close to 10psi and comes down to about 5psi around 5-5.5k
somehow i peaked it at 1.03BAR during my run idk when
because when i watched the boost controller the couples times i did. i hit 10-11 lbs tops

i havent checked the hoses thats next
just was curious to what you guys speculate with this info.

Also just so you know, I don't think you were ever in Limp Mode. Your having boost issues, but it doesn't sound like limp.

if it's the STOCK mazda map sensor then you shouldn't have any problems, I'll try and remember to snap a picture of mine close up for comparison.
