LIM to block gasket

I have been having some idle issues lately and have decided to take this opportunity to do the vaccuum hose job and replace all the gaskets along the intake. The only one I am nto too sure of is the LIM to block. I believe that should be a metal gasket, right? What are the chances that the LIM gasket would ever fail? If it does fail, what are the symptoms? I know it is going to be a pain in the *** to get that one off having to take the turbos off and all and that is probably going to be the most expensive gasket of the whole bunch. Should I just bite the bullet and replace it since I have the UIM off already or is it not worth the hassle?
thanks

If it is bad, I have an extra brand new LIM gasket that I'd sell ya. $15+shipping

BTW, I was down in Scottsdale for about 5 days a couple weeks back and didn't see a single FD there. What's the deal? I saw more porsches than I could shake a stick at though.

There are plenty of FD's here, not as many of them as Porsches, Ferraris, and Lambos though.

Will send PM about the gasket

So can the gasket be replaced without completely removing the turbos? Last time I had the turbos off I remember having a hell of a time replacing the oil lines and I would prefer if I dont have to do that again. Any comments on whether I can get enough clearance by just unbolting the turbos from the block and pulling them out an inch or 2?

Given how little room you have to work with in the first place I would say it will be close to impossible to change without completely removing the turbos... You only need to move them out a couple of inches to get at the 2 nuts and 2 bolts that hold the LIM on. However i don't thinkyou'll be able to get the turbos back far enough to get your hands + the tool to get them off.
Unfortunetly it will most likely be easier on you if you just remove them completely.

Agreed. Get a helper to help you line up the oil lines when you put them back on.

If you are going to do the vac hose job, uim and lim gasket, i would just take out the motor and put it on an engine stand. Once its on the egine stand its so much faster and easier. This is only if you have experience taking out the engine.

yeah, turbos really need to come off to get to that LIM gasket...hence why my turbos got busted/swapped by RP of Manassas when I haad my hose job and LIM done, but anywayyyyyyyyy that's another story.

In short, stock LIM = teh suck Get the redesigned metal version in there and I am sure you will notice a different car if the stocker is at all damaged.

Yes, the gasket can go bad as many stated, the earlier production gaskets were paper based, the LIM to block was paper as was the TB to UIM also. And also, the turbo's DO need to come off unless you have a majic leprochan to get the two nuts and 2 bolts off behind the turbo's for you with the turbo's in place!
Good Luck

Yeah, I have just been in denial. I have now finally admitted to myself that indeed the turbos will need to come off. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to get it done and not screw anything up!
