life with MOP bypass unit

life with MOP bypass unit

Just took the car for a 60 mile drive, first real test drive with the malloy reman/MOP bypass w/ remote reservoir. I ran 100:1 premix as additional insurance in case there was a problem with the mop, but it worked fine, and drew about 3/4 inch of 2 stroke oil out of the beer can sized reservoir I have. I guess I can safely run w/o premix next tank of gas. Just need to tune my turbo bleeder valves and automate my electric fans now. I love the light flywheel, can't wait to be fully broken in!

I was too eager to get the car on the road, and now its too buried to see anything. I'll take a picture of my cool reservoir setup and bracket tho!

Are you using the adpter from the Real World Solutions - Rotary Aviation site:
http://www.rotaryaviation.com/oil_in...p_adaptors.htm

Or a different one?

Garfinkles reservoir holds over 3 qts, it fits between the air box(m2 ) and the innercooler . He made one for Rotorbrain that is a catch can 2cycle oil tank combo . It is a 4 inch dia round tube that sits where the air pump was .

Feel not bad, my son. Know you, that the acronym standeth for "metering oil pump", which was decreed from on high to be incapable of properly depositing oil into the chamber of combusting in the sacred rotary in stock form, leading to carbon filth build up on rotor housings, broken lines of transferance, leaking at the face, and all manner of calamity.

Know you, then, that that which is spoken above is wisdom without measure, and is a blessing not lightly to be succored. Endeavor to achieve understanding of the ways of the premix, the 2-cycle oil injection conversion, and all manner of things acronymical, such as AST, TPCNT, CCV, CRV, and the lesser of import, the EGR, ACV, AWS, ISC, TPS, PCV, and others...

Go forth unto the world of Hondas, DSM's, Dodge Neons, and ill-positioned youth operating in the "Ill" position, and rape them sunder with thine turboed spear, leaving them and their Brittney-cloned fat bellied hog hoes of blue eyeshadow and too dark lipstick to stare agog in wonder. Until the next stroplight, then...

I await them all.

How does the M2 chip work with that MOP? Don't you get an error code? I just pulled my MOP 2 days ago and its dead. I have the PFS purple box and am trying to not fork out the $$ for a salvaged MOP

The ADAPTER does not REPLACE the MOP (or OMP as some say) it just givs the MOP a source of oil that does not come from the main engine oil supply, so you can feed the MOP cleaner burning 2-stroke oil instead of engine oil - the stock MOP stays in place and does the actual oil metering and injection just like normal

went to the track with the MOP adapter, and I'm very pleased. Uses about 1/2" of 2 stroke oil out of the 2-1/2" or so diameter reservoir every 20 minute track session and about the same amount on the way home from the track (southaven MI to Chicago loop). Inside of tailpipe is not black and sooty anymore, neither is the back of the car!. I'd recommend a 1 qt reservoir with low level warning for most people. though.

How's the wiring and oil lines line up on this setup. I've wanted to do this mod for a while, but the last I read on it the lines and the wiring don't line up to well. I can deal with the wiring, but I'm wondering how the oil metering lines fit and such.

Thanks

Approximately how much gas do you burn in each situation?

Garfinkle rotates the black electric thing to get the wires away from the hot turbos . The oil lines hook right up with no change .Tthis moving of wires is for the stock twins .

I just silver soldered the oil pipe joint together and ground off the interfering nut and bolt. Looked a lot easier than messing with the pump. Not sure how much fuel I used, but will check the burn for an average next time.

and another thing, put the reservoir hose on the pump end and let it dangle; really hard to get it on with the thing mounted; you will also need 1/4" drive 10mm universal socket to get the oil line on. Dunno if you can do it in the car, very tight in there

I disassembled the MOP to see how this clocking of the pump could work. It does work and very easy. You rotate the housing then make sure that the pump rod goes in the hole in a rotatable member located in the other part of the OMP. Reassemble the OMP.

That said, I didn't go this route. Why? My last two motors failed because of the o-ring rather than anything having to do with apex seal lubrication or turbo lubrication. Mind you, I ran the cheapest oil possible b/c I didn't want ash producing additives in the more expensive dyno fossil oil. Upon disassembly of the turbos, there very little wear over 98K.

Plus I didn't want to be adding oil like my Yamaha RD350 and RZ350s and always keeping an eye on the oil tank and carrying bottles of 2 cycle oil around. Plus I didn't want another fluid container in addition to the water tank for the Aquamist system. Too many fluid containers already!!!

Off topic but I will be running EVANS NPG+.
