auto tranny... need a "how to" in changing fluid

im leaking oil under the tranny... checked under the car and it was from a two hose directly under the transmission. I have change the hose and the clamps... now how the hell can i flush the transmission oil?

I searched but only found out the procedure for the manual transmission and not for the auto. The manuals found in myrx7.com for the auto tranny is very vague!

auto owner need help...

Good question. If the Tranny doesn't have an oil drain plug, the only other way to flush/change the oil is to remove the pan. A real PITA....but......while the pan is off, you can buy an aftermarket drain plug/adapter and install on the pan for an easier future oil change. Carefull not to tear the pan gasket. Good Luck.

damn... that's what i read in the old threads!! The question is WHY, WHY, and WHY did Mazda do this??

If that's the case... do i just need to unbolt the pan *right under the tranny*, change the gasket or apply RTV and install the pan back to the tranny?? does the bolts must be change as well?? tanx

Does it have a filter? If so drop the pan, change the filter; then bring it to some shop that has a tranny fluid exchange machine. If you drop the pan only to change the fluid your wasting your time since most of the old fluid will still be in the torque converter (among other parts).

Which filter are you talking about? isnt there a "how to" for this project?

There's usually an internal transmission filter that has to be changed every 20-30k miles or so (not sure on the exact time frame ). They are square and thin and can be seen as soon as you take the pan off. Can be un-bolted and changed out pretty easy.

The Auto has TWO filters both are inside in the pan. The only way to DRAIN the fluid & Change the FILTERS is to remove the pan, The fluid can be flushed through the hoses leading to the trans fluid cooler. a Trans Shop or Oil Change shop will have a machine that pumps new clean fluid in while sucking the old dirty fluid out - the procedure usually uses about 50% more fluid than the total capacity of the trans & Coolers. and gets all the dirty fluid out of the Torque Converter & Cooler, unlike a simple draining which will leave the Trans Cooler full of, and the TQ Conv at least 1/2 full of, old fluid.

Yes - Add fluid through the Dipstick tube - Use a funnel and add it slowly checking often - you do NOT want to over fill as excess fluid can damage the trans and it is a bitch to get the excess out if you do accidently over fill. also rembember that the fluid level should be checked w/ the fluid warm & the engine idling in neutral iirc.

And after you add tranny fluid through the dipstick hole, run through the gears a couple of times; to get a more accurate reading.
