Question license plate mod

hey folks, I remember seeing a post about what I'm looking for few years back and I can't seem to find that thread. I'm looking for a license plate holder that rocks back and forth by a weight. It's meant to be on the front bumper and it functions like a swinging door. When driving it lifts back from the wind and when stopped it stays down for the plate to be visible.

The question is, does anyone know a site or place to buy these frames that hold the plates this way?

Those are Japanese plates. I remember seeing them previously. I believe the adapter positions the plate in a way to block a good amount of the bumper vent. I was going to buy one as well but the legality of it pushed me away. Im pretty sure its illegal to have em in NJ and NY.

I don't see how being that the plate is still visible. It doesn't block the vent while driving since it gets pushed up from the wind. There is weight put on to the hinge so that it doesn't constantly sway up and down.

i believe (or i might be making this up) that its intended for FI applications.. so basically when youre going 55mph+? that it swings back to allow more air into the intercooler..

pretty cool concept but im pretty sure it would be illegal in nj and ny as well since we have soem pretty gay laws.. we are suppose to have front plates and ive been pulled over for not having one so i think having this is also a gamble...

ur right. I was thinking of the plate adapter for some reason in the middle of my posting. Either way I'm pretty sure u will be ticketed for having one of these bad boys when on the highway. It's just not worth it IMO.

I did this and it cost like $2.00

just buy some hinges and pop rivit them to your license plate

done

who cares if it is illegal, when your stopped by the cops the plate is in the down position and when your boosting its out of the way. Also it will help with red light cameras if your are the type who run reds

I think you are thinking of something more advanced then what I have described. Its just a plastic plate frame with a piece on the side the allows the plate to swivel when pressure is applied. i.e. the wind. There is a weighted piece almost like a fishing rod weight attached on the side that balances the plate movement depending on velocity. There isn't any electrical device its just physics.

It moves up from wind and also when you push with your finger just like a regular door on a hinge, but its balanced weight makes it stay down from gravity.

So... when you are stopped the plate stays normally visible and when you drive the wind pushes it in an angle or all the way up depending on how hard the wind pushes it.

I can see it being made very easily but I just don't got the time so I was wondering if someone knew the site that used to sell it. Hinge, frame, and lug nuts to weigh the plate with do the trick.

^ My thoughts exactly. Every red light camera I've seen takes a shot of the rear plate, not the front.

news to me, **** I don't run them tho, if I did my engine runs so rich the rear plate has a thick layer of dirt/un burned fuel on it, you can hardly see the numbers anyway.
here is mine, i need new hinges after my off road moment my plate doesn't stay down, it is pertinently in the up position, I need to fix that.

Sorry to push the issue again but did you see the one that uses a spring? This would prevent the plate from rocking back and forth on a weight.

Uh oh, that may be a problem. I just searched the thread and found it but I lost the page. Im not sure if it was the actual springy one or just a Jap license plate holder. I dont remember if USDM plates fit perfectly on it or not I forgot.

Ahh well good luck finding it!
