Leak From Oil Pan!!!! Help!!!!

somebody please help me! so about three days ago i went to go and get my car (93 rx7 stock) emission tested since i needed to renew it soon. however i failed the test and they said i had a leak coming from my oil pan, or at least that is what the stupid instructors thought was. however, i dont know what this leak from my oil pan is and i dont know how to fix it. can somebody please tell me any and all possibilties of what is causing this leak from my oil pan and the severity of all scenarios. please respond! please! i want to get my car fixed but i need to have a general idea of how much it is going to cost me first. also, do you guys have any thoughts on why i failed my emission test?...by the time i left i realized the damn guy didnt give me a sheet telling me why i failed and when i came back he didnt even recognize me. but please please help me. is the seal just broke or could it possibly be something much much worse...coming from the rotor, oil pump, etc. thanks.
-jesse

btw: any and all responses are appreciated, even if you arent completely sure cuz i am just clueless. i am hanging here refreshing the page every 30 seconds in anticipation for a reply. thanks so much guys.

Just crawl up under there and find out where your leak is exactly. Then you will have a better idea as to whats wrong then we will by randomly throwing out answers or thoughts.

the leak literally is coming from an edge of the oil pan but i cant quite tell still if its the seal or something more...even with feeling around. later this summer and fall i am taking some automotive college courses so i can ge involved with working on my car instead of having to be prudent so i dont do more damage then already done.

Now use the "search" function to find more help on oil pan leaks or rear seal leaks. You can also search for failed emissions.

The search should give you more info then you can deal with.

It's the link on the top right of the page.

ill bet $$$ its from the seal! the seal from the oil pan is prone to leaks. as long as you monitor your oil level on a reg basis you should be just fine. a lot of us just live with it since it such a PITA to work on. later when you have time you can fix, but its no big hurry. i hope you have a black to driveway!

REMEMBER TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE OIL LEVEL!!!!

Buy a new oil pan while you are at it. Unless you want to do it twice.

You could always buy the A-Spec oil pan.

thanks guys, all is appreciated. i was just afraid this was going to cost me a grand to fix the motor rather than a buck fifty to fix the seal. is there still a chance it is something to deal with the motor or is that possibility slim to none. i just want to stop sweating. i have also not owned this car for long which is part of the reason why its having problems. i pamper and monitor the **** out of the thing...but obviously not well enough.

This car is nothing impossible to take care of, Ive yet to have any REAL problem with mine, I see any guage out of place, and pull over thats it, no where do I have to be that costs me 3000$ in a rebuild. Oil pan leak is normal (weird mine hasnt), just get under there replace it. www.iluvmyrx7.com I belevie the site is to get the Shop Manual, download every one , then go to kinkos and make a nice binder out of it.
Good day =P

I think you were lucky today. The moon was right or something. But in the past I have seen people flamed and no responses on questions like this. And from your reply you have been in that boat. You should have known to use the serach hear first too.

Although I was (or WE were) glad to help.
