launching
I have only had my RX7 for a short while and have never raced it or even launched it hard. But, at what RPM do you guys that race launch from? I used to launch my GSX at around 4000-4500 rpm but it was AWD of course so I only would spin a little. With a RWD I don't want to waste my time spinning. I just need a reference to start from and then I will practice and find the right rpm for me. Thanks

Why would u slip the clutch on a GSX? Its AWD u should be dropping that thing at like 5500-6krpm.
RX7's do tend to get a lot of wheel hop, so u have to sort of feather the clutch. If you it hopping then just back off and then give it some gas again.

At those RPM's I would spin like a mother-******. No slipping it worked the best for me in the GSX but the RX7 is a whole new game. I want to be able to run at least as fast as I could in my GSX. I ran a best of 12.2 in my GSX and I've seen a lot of people run faster than that here on the stock twins so that's my goal. Launching is just so I can cut a good light and have a nice 60 foot.

In a gsx u wouldnt spin at 6k at all!
THe 7 takes some time to get used to, I usually rev to about 3 and then drop it to about 2500 and slip it out. It makes for a quick start. Just go out to a parking lot and "play with it"
You can hit low 12's ina rx7 fairly easily. All the bolt ons, some fuel and an IC should get u well into the 12's.

My GSX would light them up at 6k. I would spin through first and most of second. At the track, maybe not. But on the street where I typically raced, oh yeah. I still would out launch everyone and they would have to play catchup the rest of the way at the track. I only track raced it a few times, mostly street racing.

In the rain? BS. Is he bone stock or something? When I first bought my GSX I thought I could race in the rain. I was way wrong, it gets pretty scary when your AWD decides it want to go sideways in the rain. When I was stock I could only chirp the tires but once I passed the 350 hp mark, it was all spinning from there. not as bad as my friends f-bodies but if I didb't slip the clutch out I think I would have lost some races where I pretty much won off the line and just held on.

never sidestep the clutch? I thought that was the way to race any car, FD or otherwise, just find the right rpms such that you don't spin too much and sidestep. Is it better to:
a) feather it out starting at 4k rpm
b) sidestep around 2500-3k??
Anyone else agree that sidestepping is bad?

I had a GSX and it was pretty modified. I could not spin the tires unless I dropped the clutch at redline. Second gear I couldn't even if I tried. I think it would take a lot of power to spin in second gear in an AWD so I'm going to call BS on that. This guy I race with has a 1st gen GSX and he runs high 11's. He even told me that he could barely spin in 1st. He was trying real hard to spin just to get his turbo spooling but he could never do it enough.
Slip the clutch on your 7. I launched mine at about 3K if I can remember correctly. Then just give more gas as you take t he clutch out. That gives me my best 60' times. It'll kill your clutch especially if it's stock.

yeah I think slipping it is the best. for instance my clutch is pretty much toast (original w/65k), but I rev to 3k and slip it and I got a 2.106 60' time on street tires and ran a 13.3 @107.

my friend has a 1st gen TSi AWD and he could chirp the tires bone stock at a 4500 launch. now he can do AWD burn outs the look on the bleach boys face when he sees all 4 tires roasting over is a sight to see. he runs 11.2-4's
