Is this kink bad?

As I was pulling my engine, I noticed this one hose that doesn't look good. Do you think it's a bad thing?

That feeds fuel vapors from the gas tank to a solenoid that releases them into the intake. I don't think that kink will cause any serious problems.

If you use a non oem filter, make sure it has the anti-back flow valve

I use the fram filters. Can someone explain the anti-back flow valve to me. I've never heard anything about needing special oil filters.

I've heard and seen fram filters fail. I use a mobil 1 filter. I'm not familar with the anti-back flow valve though... I hope the mobile 1's have them because I have about 5 more left from the last time I stocked up.

There was just an article on here about oil filters. You don't have to spend $10 on a mobile1, another decent brand was puralator pure1 for around 5. Fram was rated BAD

Most have a valve. Its just a piece (either a nitrile rubber diaphragm, or a piece of spring loaded plastic) that sits on the inlet and when there is no oil pressure it rests on the inlet keeping the oil inside the oil filter for the next startup.

I can't believe I've never heard of this anti-back flow valve before. I'm guessing penzoil doesn't have it. And I've been using their oil filters for sometime

K&N oil filters use metal anti-drainback valve.

I've had two Frams fail. Both of them on a Miata, which uses the same filter as our car. Both were drain-back valve failures. You could hear the lifters thrashing at startup. Sounded like a frigging diesel!!! K&N haven't failed in three years...

Penzoil filters are relabeled Frams. I dont know if anybody makes a filter without the anti-flowback any more though. The reason Frams are bad is their cheap construction and limited filteration area when you cut them open. The purolater is a much higher quality construction with more pleats for greater filtering area. I tend to stick with those or the Mazda filters which also go for about $5-6.
The one time I used a Fram my oil pressure went through the roof. It was the only filter available to me at the time so I was stuck with it. After seeing the problem I found a Penzoil and stuck it in, not knowing it was the same filter. Saw the exact same high oil pressure. I dont know if the pressure bypass valve is set to open too high on the Fram or what, but I didnt like seeing the gauge pinned at 5k rpm.

I use nippondensco filters from rx7.com, they work great, but when it comes down to filters that anti-back flow valve is pretty inportant, specially on start up. So down cheap out on one of the most inportant parts of the car.

Well now that I know I think the first thing I'll replace when I work on my car this summer will be the oil filter. I don't think I've ever seen any problems as far as oil pressure goes, but I can't say I've honestly monitored it other then at idle.
