KGPARTS Diff Brace Installed - Pics

I finally got around to installing the KGParts dif brace.
(Thanks Keith)

The brace is simple and very strong. The installation is a bit interesting, you may thing it will not fit in the place it should, but if you follow Keith's instructions the install works out pretty easily. There is a area cut out so that the cat/catback flange does not hit the brace, but on my particular car the exhasut system seemed further to that side so it hit the brace anyway. A quick trip to homedepot and a die grinder fixed that problem in a few minutes :-)

Here is where you can get one:
http://www.kgparts.com/

Pics below:

It was cold and raining out so I could not do a test drive, but I will post as soon as I can test the brace out.

If Keith gives me permission I will post detailed install pics/instructions on how I did the install.

Looks really simple. Those look like stock bolts that it mounts to, which must make the install really easy. Nice looking either way. I can't wait to hear the road test.

How much $$?

Edit: just check the website. $159. Different colors too! WOOHOO!

Yeah, all stock bolts are used, the only thing you get (and need) is the brace.

I've been thinking about doing this mod. The price is right and if it helps, it's well worth it.

I used to track the blue one and had it on a path to become basically like the cym one, but I came across fabian's cym on here and though it was an oppertunity to get a dedicated track car that was already setup the way i wanted and keep the blue car from getting beatup on the track, keep it a street machine...it will no longer be tracked....well thats the plan anyway :-) (heheheh)

the cym is partly gutted, but not to the frame...things like AC, radio, et, are out of the car, but stuff like carpet and inside panels are still on the car. It is an entirly different beast than my 95, and I have my 95 setup pretty well, always like top 5 in the local tracks with one event time record...but the cym is at an entirly different level than the 95.... they are not even close in comparison in terms of track competition, the cym would DESTROY the 95....and that means I am going to have a lot of fun when the new track season starts :-)

KG Parts Diff brace

How is the noise level in your driveline now that you have probably road-tested the brace? Following the installation of the brace on my car two weeks ago, the noise level was horrible. Every shift was a loud clunk and a previously quiet diff howled a lot on decel. However, there is some good news, it quieted down a lot the more I drove it [or I lost my hearing].

Better news: a violent wheel hop or whatever in the right rear during left hand turns with power on in 1st and 2nd gears went away. Previous attempts to solve problem: Pettit toe links, trailing links, diff bushings, changing shock adjustment on Sport Konis, swapping out diffs, shaking every suspension component in sight, swapping left and right rear shocks, etc., etc. did nothing to alleviate the hop.

I noticed the brace is attached to the floor pan as opposed to the frame.... any possibility of this warping the floor?

drBob, the noise was impressive, could here the dif like it was next to my ear, and the shifting was like the transmission was an open box right next to me (heheheh).... I'll have to do some more testing. It did remove some drivetrain slop and I have yet to test some harder launches to see if my previous wheel hope is gone.

probably not, that part it connects to is where a stock brace goes that you take off, so that area is pretty strong...but then again, my cars dont make 8 kabillion hp either :-)

I have this brace and, although I could now hear a previously silent diff, I don't notice the diff noise to be as dramatic as this. When going slow (in a parking lot or something) I do hear my shifts quite clearly , but at normal driving speeds I can't hear a thing. I get no wheelhop and it cleaned up my drivetrain a lot. So, the mild diff noise and the slow speed shift sounds are worth it to me.

i wanna know if it'll cure my wheelhop, noise isn't a huge issue. i just replaced all my pillow ball bushings, toe links, trailing arms, pettit diff bushings, and a kaaz diff. only thing i can replace is the shocks, but i get mad wheelhop and i can't stand it.

hmmm, after i buy shocks i might be investing in one of these pieces. if we couldn't stand weird noises, we wouldn't drive fd's, now would we??

there is another brace that secures the tranny to those same bolt holes made by some dude on nopistons. my my motor builder/mechanic also made one for a customer. i believe vosko had a version of it on his car or you can check out the other board and search for it in the 3rd gen section.

it attaches to those 4 bolt holes you see just behind the cat and then goes up over the cat/mp and attaches to two bolts at the bottom of the tranny. i think that is where the ppf mounts. it seems like it would work better than this brace due to the way it mounts, but i could be wrong.

Here is the link http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...pic=20174&st=0

you want to talk about noise! the trany brace will chatter your teeth.
honestly the diff brace doesnt make any noise in my car. its hard to make it universal as each car is different. if you had your car right there it would clear everything, but its hard to know what MP, CB combo everyone has ect... thats why the exhaust pocket has grown over time. you can also get a trany brace from KGParts its just not on the site. and BTW, the trany brace does not use the same 4 holes.
