Key-in-ignition switch broken. How to fix?

Whatever the cause, my FD always thinks the key is in the ignition. This means that opening the door causes the car to beep constantly even when the key is out (i posted previously about this) but worse, the little orange ignition key light on the steering column never turns off and if I let the car sit for more than a couple days without driving it the battery will die. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

Try a shot of lock lube in it to see if it loosens up whatever is stuck

Try that. Do you have a aftermarket Remote start?

Mine does that very occasionally, but when I put the key back in and take it out, it will gently click and the beeper will go off. So I definitely think it is something mechanical that doesn't release as it should when the key is removed. I don't know if I'd use lock lube, because that usually contains graphite which could foul something, but something like WD40 may work, and should do no harm.

I believe the light on the steering column comes on when you lift the drivers door handle (much like the light in the key hole on the exterior of the door) check your electrical wiring diagram and see if it's not controlled by the security or if theres a module for the door lock controls and perhaps something that triggers the door lock and key lock lights. Well I tried lubing up the lock but to no avail. The door switch seems to work properly, when I press it in the buzzer goes off as expected and the key light remains illuminated. Any other ideas?

If anyone else is still experiencing this problem, I've posted my fix here:
