Keeping the water out!?

I've had my lovely red R1 for a few weeks now, it's summer down here in NZ ... but it's started to rain now - bugger!

Problem is - when you lift the hatch to get something out of the boot water pisses in from the hatch into the car ... seems that I won't be the first to come across this problem ... any ideas out there on how to prevent water getting in there ...

It's my only car - so I can't leave it in the garage and only bring it out on sunny days ...

Cheers
Shaun

I hate that too. I am not sure if it is a window thing, or the spoiler holes. When I wash my car, it is part of the process. I get the towels ready, and pop that hatch to try and catch all the water. I remember when I first bought my car, I checked out the lug nut wrench storage bin and found water deposits. I couldn't figure it out until I washed it for the first time. Go figure.

Happens to mine, too, but only if it rains hard or if I wash it.

same here, i think it has to do with loose hatch trim, but it could be the spoiler holes too.

also, after you guys wash and dry your car, does water drip out from the outer trim around the hatch window glass? i always dry it, then more drips down a minute later. it always pisses me the **** off, because it seems to tease me and drip out every time i turn around to hang the chammy back up.

Hmmm.. I haven't noticed this om my '97... maybe they upgraded something?

I'll wash it soon and take better notice - if it doesn't do it I'll take some pictures and post them ....

Cheers,
Dave

Oh yeah, it gets all over the jack and tire tool covers, the rear strut tower trim, carpet, etc.

Yup. I just washed mine yesterday (36 deg F outside *chilly*). I notice water hiding in the stock rear spoiler that likes to run out when the hatch is opened.

Drive faster before getting home! I donno if other hatches do the same thing but it's pretty annoying. I think it's bc our hatch is larger than usual. Most other hatchbacks are 3 piece with only the center piece opening up. Water rolls forward and is channelled to the hatch sill.

The hatch gasket holds a bit of water that rolls out. Also, all the water on the hatch, wing, glass all roll forward.

You can open the hatch a little, let the water run a bit, then open it some more but not all the way up. This seems to help a bit but won't stop some water from falling. You'll just need to keep a rag or two to soak up the spill.

haha. yeah, I get that too. what sucks is if it's soapy water. I get a lot of drainage coming from behind my drivers side taillight too. And then the side mirrors of course...

Just got back from taking some pix...

Have a look at http://rx7.bnis.net.au/photo_shoot_23_3_02.htm

I got quite a few of the hatch, but I can zero in if you want me too...

Cheers,
Dave
