kaaz lsd to tii s4 lsd

Hey i recently bought an 93 rx7 with a kaaz lsd in it but the think clunks like crazy whenever im turning. Ive been doing a lot of searches on here and heard that the tii s4 lsd r just as strong and doesnt make any noise. I was wondering if it was a direct bolt on without any modifications needed, or is there a lot of work that needs to be done to get one on. Is there a diy on this forum on how to do the swap? I did a lot of searching but didnt come up with anything on what is needed to put one on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

You could sell the kaaz and make some money. Or you can live with the clunk and have a really nice dif that is great for track/drift.

Depends on what you are doing with the car. I say keep it.

As for if the t2 lsd works i have no idea haha

i "think" the kaaz can be adjusted to not lock up as much, and when set to full lock it makes more noise when turning. I do not know how to adjust it or anything more, just something remember reading.

other then that yes the tII is a good diff as well

you will have to take the kaaz apart to flip the plate to adjust the friction, one main reason why my kaaz is the way it is. its sort of funny sometimes when guys ask whats wrong with my car and then try to race me, lol... Dam the kaaz, make me think **** is falling off all the time.

The stock Torsen diff works very well also and lasts a long time.

plenty of people drag launching on the stock FD diff. The TII diff is supposed to be a little better at drag launches since it is a clutch pack but if you get used, it will need to be rebuilt at this point.

I've also read the same. There are a few threads about that in the Race subforum. I think oil has a part to play in it as well.

Lots of fc v8 guys keep run the t2 diff and it's supposed to be near indestructible.

I've been running a cryo-treated t2 diff (bought it brand new) for a number of years now. I've never really launched it hard more than a handful of times, so can't give too much feedback.....I installed it b/c I was going to 4.3 final drive and was in there anyway

just make sure you get a s4 tII diff. here is the link on what you will need to make the change. i have one sitting in my garage ready to be installed as soon as the one stock diff breaks.

I have to say, i'm a huge fan of kaaz diffs. As for the clunking, some noise from the diff is normal. What kind of fluid are you using? You may want to try a friction modifier. I have a heavy mod ae86 i daily drive. I have a trd 2 way in it which is a direct equivalent to the kaaz 2 way. I use mobil 1 gear oil and ford friction modifier (it smells like dirty socks). When i switched from kaaz fluid to mobil with the friction modifier it got quieter. As far as i know the s4 t2 diff is not a 2 way. That would make going to it a possible downgrade depending on what you want your car to do. I would say stay with the kaaz. They are a great diff producer. You can switch the friction plates inside too in order to change the initial torque engagement points which may also make it quieter.

Theres a few extra steps that can be skipped in that link
you can get the axles out of the diff and keep them in the car so you are only dropping the center section but still a good write up wish he would have finished it though

thanx for the link. this is what i was looking for im gonna try some lucas diff oil with some friction modifier tomorrow and if it doesnt work then im going to just change it out and sell the diff. It feels like the car is breaking down everytime i take a corner. Kinda annoying when other people r in the car also.

heres a tidbit..... was the fluid ever hanged when the Kaaz diff was installed?

cause thats where alot of ppl fail to do..... break the diff's clutches in with a few miles worth of figure eights (IIRC its 10-30 miles depending on the manufacturer) and then change fluid.

this is where about 40% of the noise comes from, the CLUNKING and other noises is the adjustment on the clutch pack.

changing to another LSD fluid like Amsoil or redline with a fricition modifier has been known to significantly reduce the "chatter" on aftermarket LSD's.
