K&N air filter?

Hey rotor heads, I need so expert advice. I plan on going to the track this weekend for another run at the strip. My best time a month ago was a 13.9 at 100 mph(and thats with a shitty launch and react time). Since then I have learned how to launch better. Any ways, my car is completely stock with only down pipe. My question is, if I add a K&N filter to the stock air box, would I be running the chance of runnin lean? I figure I should be safe with the stock cat back but I need a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

My boost pattern is 10-7-10 and I have 15" vaccum at idle with 70k miles. Thanks in advance

You'll be fine. The K&N filter in a completely stock air box does little anyway. Get a cat-back exhaust to open her up a bit more.

You can easily run several mods on the stock ecu as long as you restrict the boost to 10 psi.

Thx for the info. A cat back is in the near future but, its for my 20b that I have sitting in my garage. I just wanted to add the K&N in the mean time to boost the performance (safetly) before I start my 20b swap. I have a K&N in my 91 vert that I think is the same size as the one in the Fd.

The K&N is a good filter. I could feel a difference when I put one in.

yeah, wtf? concerned about a K&N filter blowing your motor up, but you plan on doing a 20B swap?

Well the thing is, I've accually already done the stock air box mod. I used aluminum tin as a duct that feeds air along side the radiator (just like the M2 box does). I was worried if that mod and my down pipe along with the K&N would maybe be too much. Thats why I asked! My engine runs really strong.

My 20b project is a few months away (still buying things). Therefore any extra cheap and safe hp I can get out of my current engine will be a plus as I waite to start my project. Also I will be saving the 13b for a possible future swap into my 84 Rx7 while using most of the stock Fd components. Thats why I'm concerned about blowing the engine.
