Question Just wonderin'

Is there any differance in body shape in the 3rd Gen FD's that came to the states? I mean do the 93's look exactly like the 95's or are there subtle differances in the curves and overall look of the exterior? Do the touring models look just like the R1 models? Just wondering because I saw a black R1 FD the other day that was stock and it looked like the rear was more curvaceous than my 93' Touring... or am I just trippen? If I am... then I'm painting my car black in order to get that sexy *** shape! lolz ... Thanks in advace for the info guys...

Not if the seats are stock. It appears you also have original tan interior, which is another thing that R1's didn't have.

I think the models with sunroof have slightly different curvature to the roof vs. models without sunroof. Also the R1 has the extra front lip.

You'd be surprised the difference that color makes. IMHO, certain colors seem to accentuate the curves and lines (white, silver, red), while others seem to hide them a bit (yellow, black, dark blue).

The replacement body parts are the same for all model years. The wings, front spoiler, and roof vary depending on the trim level, but not model year. Your gf could be referring to the difference between an R1 and touring or base trim, or maybe she saw an FD with body mods.

I hate to burst your bubble...but there's no way to tell what model FD you have by the VIN number.

And while, as stated above, it's possible to have minor additions to an R model that are against the classical "R model" character (leather vs. suede seats, etc), a tan interior is absolutely not one of those possibilities. You can also see from below that there's no such thing as a MB or White R model...and no CYM R2s, for that matter (on R1s).

If the mazda dealer runs the vin(its called a vehicle warrenty inquiry detail) they can tell you almost everything about the car in its original configuration including the int.color/model(base, r1,touring)trans type, engine# etc...

Yea? If so, that's news to me. How would they get more info simply from the VIN? My guess is, it's not the VIN itself that provides them w/ the info...rather, they prob. look up the VIN #, and it's referenced to a database showing where the car was originally sold, and that dealership (that originally sold it) provides some sort of info about the car? Cuz a VIN # is a VIN #...it's not gonna give one person more or less info... (or so I'd think)

It's called a vehicle build sheet, and probably would say what options and trim the car has. It is a matter of the dealer pulling it based on the vin #, but I've never had one pulled for my car.

Dave, thanks for the info. Like I said...it's prob a info sheet referenced by the VIN # by the dealer, but the VIN # itself doesn't contain that kind of info.

Even then, dealers often added equipment to models to make them "hybrids" at that time for customers. That information won't necessarily be there. I've seen base models with dual oil coolers, R1's with Touring leather seats. etc...

And now after this many years, who knows what has been swapped in and out.
