Question Do-It-Yourself vs. Mechanic

I currently have a bad, leaking radiator causing my FD to overheat, so i m planning to get a Koyo or Fluidyne radiator next month. I downloaded the workshop manual....but im still thinking whether to bring it to the mechanic or do it myself. I havnt bought any tools yet to work on it.

Mechanics doesn't get much more simple than a radiator R&R. You can do it.

you dont need a hell of a lot of tools to work on this car, just get a 8, 10, 12, 14, 17mm socket/wrench set and your nearly all set, all you need is a few screwdrivers and perhpas a rubber mallet or hammer and you can damn near strip the entire car down to the chassie

if you want to do it faster/easier and more expensively, get a bunch of airtools.

bottem line is if your poor like most of us here (im not bagging on anyone, just stating the fact that if all of us could afford lambos, ferraris or hell even vipers which are sub 40k now adays, we would not be in this forum), do it yourself. If you can afford to pay someone to do it, why the hell not? you dont have to worry about it (well thats if you can find a good mechanic) and you dont have to get dirty and have your hands get all cut up.

There are plenty of good mechanics in the state of California. If you don't want (or have time) to do it yourself, ask the West Forum guys about reputable mechanics in the area.

They will get you taken care of..... Heck, one of them might volunteer to help you out themselves.

If you have the money, take it to a mechanic. I even pay to have things done to my car once in awhile, I don't get a warranty when I do things myself.

Is your time worth more than working on the car? Thast how you have to see it. I had this dilema when i started school AND work. It wasnt worth my time to work on the car, so I had it go to a mechanic.
