Cool Am finally an owner of 93 RX7

I bought a 93 RX7 (Touring package) a little while ago and have had it in the shop the last week and a half. It already had PFS (Peter Farrel Supercars, am sure you guys are familiar with Peter Farrel) exhaust, purple computer, and the engine and tranny are fairly new with less than 15K miles on them. I got it for a great deal at $10500. There's about 80K miles on the car itself. I got to enjoy it for a day, then the check engine light came on, and the car broke down on me on the road. It sucked, I didn't even get to enjoy the badass car for a day yet...took it to a mechanic and I'll be pickin' it up today. So far, I've invested $2700 (not bad considering the initial cost of the car). about $900 to replace the intake manifold (there was a vacuum leak), $1290 to fix the fuel leak in the primary fuel injector, and $530 to replace the stereo system. People were askin' me if it was worth it to put all that money into a used car...all I had to say was...it's an RX7 . Anyways, I've read the posts in this forum, and there's some good information in here. Was wonderin' if any of you had to do the same kind of repairs with your RX7's. Can't wait to get it out of the shop today, and take my baby out for a spin. Oh yeah, I'm also wonderin' if it's necessary to install a turbo timer on it. Peter Farrel told me it wasn't...but am still wonderin' about that. I also still need to get a tune up, and a cold air intake. Thanks guys!

Way too go. Ust this site and other links and learn how to work on that beast yourself. You'll save mega bucks that you will be able to use for mods.

Did you guys read that ****?

$900 to replace intake manifold. WTF?

$1290 to "repair" primary injectors. double WTF?

$500 to replace the factory stereo. triple WTF???

You need to pick a new mechanic NOW. That is the biggest raping I have ever seen.

BTW, welcome to the club.

You'll learn to work on it yourself, and you'll learn how to save money by working on it yourself, and then you'll learn how to blow all the money you saved on more mods that you can put on yourself, then the cycles starts again...you'll learn how to do things you didn't think you could do, then you'll save more money...spend more money...learn new stuff...again

Ouch, are you sure that was the cost to 'fix' those things? Who's the mechanic? Like was said earlier, you'll soon learn to work on your own car, and it'll be a even more enjoyable experience then.

Anyways, welcome aboard.

Sorry, no lube for PFSRX7 either. Ya, I'm cruel. But this deserves unusual punishment learning he got ripped off big time on the labor. But then again, he probably got charged $100 an hour for wrenching and thinking about wrenching. OMG. Especially after he just got it. There is larceny in the heart of that mechanic.

Extend arm. Palm face up. Bring palm to forehead hard. Repeat.

The dark side indeed. and for the mechanic:and followed by

BTW, welcome to the club!

My only involvement in this deal was to recommend that the customer get his car out of that shop and bring it to us so we could diagnose his problems and try to help him.

I guess he chose to stay put and pay the big money.

Oh, as for whether you need a turbo timer - if you have patience to sit and let it idle for a bit after a hard drive, then no need and probably better w/o it. Heard all sorts of funny turbo timer stories, including one where the turbo timer malfunctioned or sumthin, and left the car running in a garage at a apartment complex. Neighbor supposedly called the Fire Department thinking it was a suicide attempt...

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, clarification...PFS is not the current mechanic. I've heard great stories of PFS, and they did not give me the pricings listed. Yeah, it'll take some time to learn to do the mods myself, however...considering I don't have much free time. I know it's gonna be an expensive toy. The reason the costs ARE so high are due to labor costs. As for the head unit, that price included the harness kit, and extended warranty, plus rewiring of the Bose sound system. Anyways, hope to learn a lot from the forum, and thanks for the welcome notes and advice all!

...even though you will inevitably curse the car itself and hate it's guts.... until you get it back together and drive it...

welcome to the club, nice find, any pics?

Nope, no pics yet...haven't been able to even drive it much yet. Thought I was gonna get it out the shop today, but they're putting the final touches on it, and it'll be ready tomorrow. Well, as the saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait."
