Just SOLD FD for $25,000!!!!!
Just to let all the people out there trying to get the most $$$$ for their FDs or cars in general. Don't let people like "mightslash" discourage you from pricing the FD based on what YOU think it should be. These cars are becoming more rare as the years go by, and YES the prices are getting higher and higher (good for FD owners) for GOOD FDs. BTW, mine's was a silverstone metallic w/red interior w/19K original miles. I was sad to sell my car but am verrrry happy with $25K added to my bank account. Good luck to all the sellers out there.

You just have to understand Mr. Slash Mighty's situation. If you understand his situation, you will learn alot about the import boy racer trend. See, young people, like mightyslash don't have large amounts of disposable income, or any income for that matter. This poses a problem, especially after seeing The Fast & The Furious almost 17 times (three in a row) and wanting to be Vin Diesel more than anything in the whole wide world. They dream about owning an RX7...look at the forum everyday, save their weekly allowances hoping that they too will own one someday. See where this is going??? Finally, after 6 months of saving and FINALLY finding that FD with 130,000 miles (and on its third motor, not to mention the "other than clear" title) for ONLY $8000...Whoooohooo!!!! Hell, I don't feel like typing anymore. You get the idea...

Mightyslash might not think your car is worth $25k, but obviously it was worth $25k to someone else... cause someone bought it for that price. No one forces you to buy. If asking price is too much for you, that's just too bad... doesn't mean someone else can't afford it. The buyer didn't get ripped off if the buyer believed that the car was worth $25k. Bottom line is, people will pay what they think the car is worth... if his car was really overpriced, no one would have bought it right? And ttt and rage are right, under normal circumstances you do get what you pay for, it's simple economics.

When i was first looking for a FD, i knew what i wanted. Low miles and clean. I found a Red 93 R-1 with less than 20k miles on it. 1 owner, very clean. Infact the guy was obsisive compulsive...so the car was basicaly like new. Not a door ding/scratch on it. He wanted $23k for it. Unfourtunetly i only had 20k to spend, and couldn't scrounge anouther buck to save me life. It was the nicest all stock FD i've seen in my life. I would of gladly payed 23k for it.
In the end, i did end up with a very nice FD, just two problems. Its black, and theres a deep key mark on the drivers side door, and it needs a new R-1 lip. But other than that, its a realy nice car. CJ

To some people low mileage cars are worth big $$$$$, to me they are too but I didn't have that much to spend so I got my car with 74k on it. I don't know why mightyslash thinks they got ripped off, sounds to me like you found a happy buyer and personally I think it's good that FD sale prices are on the rise(especially since I already have one), and to tell you the truth mightyslash, with people wrecking FD's all the time and sending them to the graveyard, and if that person doesn't drive the car much, think of how much it will be worth in say 5 years or even 10 years, it surely shouldn't depreciate in value.

While I do understand the logic behind wanting a car's resale value to stay high, what's wrong with someone complaining about a price that the current market dictates as "too high"? I wish 3rd Gens were more affordable as I'd certainly be driving one as opposed to a "slow" 2nd Gen, but as a poor college student who lacks a large amount of disposable income I had to settle for a mint TII. :p 25K for a very low-mileage 3rd Gen is almost twice what current market value dictates for these cars.
However, wouldn't it be nice if all enthusiasts could afford what is arguably the pinnacle of Mazda's engineering? I don't like elitist clubs that are simply based on how much of a car someone is able to afford.
Maybe I'm just reading too far into this thread...

Some of you crack me up. Let me ask AGAIN...
HOW many cars under $20,000 have the following specs:
Top speed of 160mph
Pull almost 1g on factory skinny 225 tires
0-60 in 4.9s
Run 1/4 in 13.9s
Still look as good as some of the new cars being sold in the dealers.
Now tell me. HOW many cars carry ALL of those specs, and cost under $20,000? How many cars even BRAND NEW carry ALL of those specs and STILL cost under $20,000? You can count them with one hand, can't you?
I believe, an FD, regardless of miles, should never even fall below $20k. It is just TOO much of a car to cost less than that. Of course, if it is falling apart, then it WILL be cheap. There are old corvettes that still selling in their teens, and they aren't even as fast as a stock FD. Let alone even on a track.
I don't look at mileage. Mileage is for people that don't replace parts in their car. I got 88k miles on mine, and it still feels like the $35k sticker price. I bought mine with 39k miles for about $17,000k THREE years ago. I DID get a good steal. I have enjoyed EVERY mile I have put on her, and will continue to do so. If I put another 100k on my FD and decide to sell it, showing reciepts that every single possible component that may fail has been replaced, it will be just as good, if not better than an FD with 50k miles. My car doesnt even smell like a used car. I regularly condition my seats and wash the rugs. If you could drive the WELL kept FDs with high mileage, you would swear they felt like an FD with 10k miles or less.
Hey, if you can find an FD falling apart for less than $10k. Well great. Buy it. Fix it up, and now you have an FD worth possibly over $15k. You take care of the interior enough, and it will feel like even more to you.

Nothing wrong with keeping our car values up. Hell, '94 Supra's w/ single turbo's still sell for $32K! I've had offers for $30K for mine and wouldn't sell..........Thats not to say I would not sell because we all know everyone has their price....

What are you talking about black99? collector's item? are you kidding?
Dont get me wrong, I love the FD more than any other "comparable" car out there! but to expect to get tons of cash out of aging cars that are not exactly classics? I know theres a handful of them in the US and with the amount of kids buying and wrecking them it does kinda make it a hard car to find/see. I just dont see the collector potential an FD may have.
Of course youre just mildly suggesting a grand or two then ok I see it!
BTW, whats a good price for an FD?
Just kidding...but seriously I do think they are getting old(hate that though) still I am happy and enjoying the car!!!
One question: What are you guys planning on doing with your cars? I would think that paying 20k for a car that you rarely drive is not only a waste of money but isn't the car a really, really, really nice car to just drive? If you drive it, doesn't it rack up the miles? how are you guys gonna keep low miles on them? isn't the engine eventually gonna blow? once it does, aren't you replacing/rebuilding it? Am I missing something here????How do you keep a nice car from becoming shitty?
too many questions?
ah, just thought i'd kill some time
Thank you
good night!

Like most things in life, 3rd Gen RX-7 sale prices follow the old bell shaped curve, and you'll always be able to find extremes at either end.
For the most part, you can only talk with any degree of certainty about things in the broad average middle.
I did notice a short upward blip in prices after the Fast and the Furious came out, but they've declined since then.
Will the FD become a collectable? Owning one, I'd like to think so. But what makes a car collectable can be a tricky mix. Even a number of Ferraris aren't collectable.

It's a never ending viscious cycle. Then Guy sells FD for cheap because it's broken. Next Guy buys cheap FD. Next Guy attempts to repair FD half way. Next Guy then realizes he can't afford it. Next guy now is forced to sell FD for cheaper than what he bought it for.
See how this goes around? So what happens to the mint FDs? They sell REALLY high simply because there are TOO many bad examples out there for sale, and because of this, people now suddenly think guy got ripped of because of buying a mint FD since there are a large number of bad examples in the market

Soemthing goes wrong with it, you immediately repair/replace it and DON'T do a 1/2 *** job.
Your bumper is flaking due to chip stones? You PAINT it.
Your seats are getting worn out? You have them upholstered.
Your rug is growing holes in it? You replace it.
Your engine is leaking oil from the oil pan? You reseal it.
Your suspension and chassis looks dirty? You degrease it and wash it down.
I've seen cars with 200k miles that you would swear it had less than 50k. Why? Because it was taken care of. You don't have the money to maintain it? Then maybe you shouldn't have bought it in the first place

Would the Workshop Guide and Repair Manual be helpful in maintaining my FD? I've thoroughly read the owner's manual, but I don't feel like I got enough out of it. Do those books have diagrams? I feel like keeping this car forever. Too bad it attracts ******** that like to pull up at stop lights and rev up like they've got something special.
