Thumbs up

Everybody that responded to this post cracks me up. To all the haters, get a second job if you can't afford a "high" priced FD. Yea, my car was MINT. Compression test showed a 112-115 PSI on all rotor faces on both rotor housings. FDs will be one of a few cars that RULE the road and track for years to come, that is until I purchase my 2002 Silver/Black S2000 with a turbo kit (that's right), TURBO. Currently, the turbo kit puts down 330 RWHP at 8 PSI (dyno proven) on stock internals, and 1/4 is 12.3 seconds. And with a thicker head gasket, it will really hustle.

If anyone else is looking for an extremely low mileage bone stock FD I have mine for sale. It's a '93 SSM/black interior, 5 speed (of course), with only 9561 miles on it.

Congrats DTM_Le_Mans, and good luck with your S2000.

BTW, mine's was a silverstone metallic w/red interior w/19K original miles. I was sad to sell my car but am verrrry happy with $25K added to my bank account. Good luck to all the sellers out there.
You sold your FD

It's hard nowadays to even find a FD with 19k let alone one with the red interior.

Well, I just did a quick search. For some REALLY odd reason, FDs are in the collectible section of www.autotrader.com Most of them seem to be between $15k-$20k with only a couple above $20k and another couple below $15k. If you also notice, the dealers have them at almost book value simply because dealers have NO clue as to how rare these cars are.

Currently, FDs are being sold for at least $5k OVER NADA prices. Usually, a car is sold for under NADA pricing. I think they are holding their value rather well.

Gotta add my $.02!

Bought my 93 VR Base Model RX-7 in 1997 with 49K miles for $20,000.

Now it has 118k miles, with a rebuild of the engine and turbos @ 114K in August 2001 with ACT clutch & 8.5# flywheel.

Today, I had to replace the primary injectors.

Over the past 5 1/2 years I have hunted for and found the following parts to add/or replace:

RX-7 embroidered mats from Garland TX
Apexi Dunk Catback from Los Angeles CA
Stock Fog Lights w/original switch from Connecticut
Racing Beat Type 1 Spoiler from New Jersey
Front defroster vent louvres from Chicago
Driver Door storage bin from Chicago.....twice
Misc Interior plastics from Chicago

Parts from all over!

I Repainted Vintage Red w/Clear Coat......April 2000

Kenwood CD H/U with Boston Acoustic Pro 6.5's and Alpine Amp w/Vega Sub Tube

Brushed Aluminum Dash Overlay Kit....Dec 2001

I have invested over $10,000 since the original purchase.

Today, I would not even think about selling for less than $25k.

But, I'm not in this to sell. I plan on putting one of those "Antique Tags" on my Rex (cars have to be 25 years old to get the tag).

I drive my car and don't worry about the miles, because I enjoy the ride, the feel, the acceleration, the sheer joy of cruising down the road. It's the American Dream! When I stop for gas or anything else, people are always asking about my new 10 year old car!

If you can afford it. Enjoy it!

Click here to see my REX!

I bought a 1993 Silver FD with red interior in late November. It had 69K on the odometer. There is a 2nd turbo boost leak and a rip in the driverseat. I can repair the leak with new hoses and get the seat professionally fixed. I'll repaint the car in a few months since there are a lot of chips on the front. In the end, I paid $11K for the car, tax, and tags.

The car will only get older and get more miles on the meter, but if someone were to buy mine for around, $20K, I'd sell it. I want to give congrats to DTM Lemans.

Seriously? You're kidding, right? S2000s are great autox cars. My wife and I ran some good courses pretty damn fast in our Boxster when we owned it, but there's one guy in our region that can move in his Honda. The car places all over the place in the top spots at nationals.

Not knocking the FD here, just clarifying that the S is a great autoxer.

Yeah mine has a wing on it and when I get the thing respainted it going
to get scrapped in favor of a Mazdaspeed15th anniversiary spoiler.
I thought all R1s had the front lip spoiler and rear wing anyways.
Who would pay two grand for that stock wing?

what's worth more?

What will be worth more, a mint FD or a modified one with all the fixings?

I would think a mint one would go for more. I don't really understand why modded 7's go for less when modded Supra's go for more. I guess it's all in the mods. If there aren't too many body mods...I think that it'll go for more. People don't want to drive around and everyone say "that's so and so's car right".

I keep all my car's pretty simple and people still say "nice car". It's all in the way that you do the mods.

Congrats on the good sale. For all you that say it is a rip off, you are a cheap ***. There is NO car that comes close to an FD in performance for the price. I payed 20K for my 1995 VR PEP with 49K miles on it. I think I got a steal, considering they only sold 69 VR PEPs in 1995. I have had offers ranging from 25-35K for my car. Yes it is in mint condition and is more rare, but an FD is an FD...They are all rare, exotic sports cars that have their own little quirks. My car steals more looks at an autocross that any corvette, porsche, or viper, but that may be becuase the 7's times are better than all those cars. I am glad that FDs are holding their value. That means I will have more of a reason to keep it forever, instead of sell it when Mazda comes out with a new RX-7! (And don't say they wont....They HAVE to come out with another one. There is too great of a history and loyal following of the car to stop production permanently. If they don't what will I drive once my FD becomes a weekend cruise and track-only autocrosser)

By The Way....to all you guys bitching about the high prices of FDs.....Look around and find the one that is right for you. I looked for almost 2 years. I was 17 when I bought mine...and am paying for it BY MY SELF!!! I am a part time mechanic and mow yards (while still keeping my grades up)....so if you dont have a big family to provide for, and have a job, and still cant afford an FD, then you have no room to talk. True, FDs cost alot more than FCs but I think they are in a slighly different class of "sports-car". (NO, I'm not talking bad about FC's. I want an FC too so I can club race it. They are badass cars, but I have never seen a better looking affordable car than an FD)
Just my .02

I guess I'll add my thoughts...

FLYBYE...as far as your first post goes....I swear I've heard that somewhere before. Oh yeah...When I got $22,500 for mine last June(hehe), and everyone said I was asking too much. Well well well...apparently not. We were saying something about keeping the value up, and apparently people are. I'm glad he got what he did. That's pretty impressive. Although I've been thinking about getting another one, but I want to build the motor from scratch. So I'll have to find one of those kids who can't afford the repairs...that would be great!! Pick up an FD for say $5,000. I just might have to turn around and sell it for $19k. hehe!

And as far as TTT's FD goes....I'd shell out 20K. I don't understand why a pic of that thing hasn't popped up yet.

Anyway, Congrats on your sell. Have a blast with your S2k. My buddy has one, and there pretty fun.

look at the ads right now in autotrader.com- good Fd's still over 20k or around...I still get people thinking my car is at least a 50k car- and instant celebrity status- no other car will do this...

It's a never ending viscious cycle. Then Guy sells FD for cheap because it's broken. Next Guy buys cheap FD. Next Guy attempts to repair FD half way. Next Guy then realizes he can't afford it. Next guy now is forced to sell FD for cheaper than what he bought it for.

See how this goes around? So what happens to the mint FDs? They sell REALLY high simply because there are TOO many bad examples out there for sale, and because of this, people now suddenly think guy got ripped of because of buying a mint FD since there are a large number of bad examples in the market

NOOOOOOO NVR !! Even if I couldn't afford the repairs I would nvr sell it
