Just ordered a V1. Best mounting position?

Like the title says, I've finally got a Valentine One. For all those FD and V1 owners, what mounting position has given you the best performance?

You want to get the detector as high as possible, without cutting off it's view through the rear.

center of the windshield, as high as possible without blocking its rear sensor

I noticed someone on here (don't remember who) posted in a past thread about mounting it above the rearview. Does this block the rear sensor?

It's prob me. I have it in the small area of glass b/w the headliner/roof and the rearview mirror. It's hardwired, and the line is run under the headliner, so it's very clean. This way, it's VERY high up for greatest coverage, and the rear sensor still has a clean view straight out the rear windshield (also high). But honestly, my #1 priority was concealment, as radar detectors are illegal where I live Very rarely - if ever- will a cop stick his head INTO the window to see the headliner (which is a lot higher up than the top edge of the driver side window)...it's a safety risk for them. And it can't be seen from the outside through the front windshield either (it blends in w/ the shadow of the black headliners and black rearview mirror). I've actually been pulled over numerous times, and the cops never saw the detector

That's awesome, if Texas ever goes illegal on detectors I'm moving my power supply to that location. For now my V1 stays just above the inspection sticker on left lower corner of the front glass ... I know it's not "as high as possible for best response" but honestly, this thing goes off so soon that it often alerts too early. Plus there's little laser in my areas and I keep my eyes peeled (old habit from my early years flying around on sport bikes).

Very cool. The tint strip doesn't interfere with the front sensor when it's mounted that high?

I always thought of puting one on a pop up platform under the tweter grill so if I get pulled over (or when I am going through the gate since I live on a base) I can just hit a button and it is in the dash.

While everyone's here, what's the correct wire to tap into with the Direct-wire power adapter?

I have the Passport 8500 X50 and it is mounted above the mirror and works just fine in that location. On a trip from Vegas to LA it picked up the radar from a cop on an overpass over 9 miles away!I love that thing!
