It might not "look" as good but in reality 2.5" pipe should flow more than the med IC can efficiently flow and it wont hit the strut braces or hood.

I just ordered (last week) and received (yesterday) from the RX7store.net one of Kevin's new medium ICs. I can verify that the pipes have formed beads on the ends, and the IC inlet and exhaust pipes have a machined bead on the ends. I understand that Kevin made some changes to this latest batch for better fitment.

I have not installed the unit yet, but all the parts arrived quickly (thanks Jason & Zavier) and in fine shape.

Actualy I have had 3 sets of pipes during the last 4years. They were all from M2. It seems to me that whomever welded the pipes did not do it precisely the same way each time. all of the pipes were welded slightly different and all of them rubbed on the hood on the passenger side. I actually have a hole worn through the hood brace. Half of my pipes had the beads rolled and the other 3 didn't (they were bent outwards with pliers- pathetic), another set had the beads rolled but on only half of the diameter of the pipe. The guy was too lazy to keep the pipe straight. Super low quality at that price, especially since if the pipes were constructed [properly it possibly would have been an intercooler that would have become legendary.

But it would add a section change to the flow path, which wouldn't be good for flow. It might be kind of a pain to get the sharp 90 degree bend and a 2.75 to 2.5 change in there and still have it flow well. On the other hand, since it is such a troublesome point anyway, perhaps it wouldn't turn out to have that much of an effect on the flow of that section.

Another option might be a tight 2.75" silicone 90 degree bend at the y-pipe connection.

Hey Kevin!

Congrats on getting the intercoolers up and going again...

I plan on buying either the large or medium in the next month...

Thanks for keeping a great product supplied to the rx-7 community!

For those of you with the medium...please comment on the fitment....it might be my next IC with a BNR upgrade

Well I PMed Kevin a couple times with no response so... Is it possible to get the cross over pipe by it's self yet? I'd like to replace the one I have now that was worn before I modded the coupler.

There's no such thing. I don't think Kevin believes they are any better than an SMIC, but I don't want to put words in his mouth.

Actually, you don't have to relocate the battery out of the engine bay with the Large SMIC. A Hawker Odessey PC-680 mini battery would fit next to the large SMIC(See pic) The only thing is that you have to offset the IC core towards the passenger side about an inch. The duct will fit fine but the not cover the entire core.
My intake temps on the freeway are generally 29-33 C on 80 F days.

Looks like your duct is moved towards the driver's side. That *is* a mini battery I spy, right?

Lol at the Beer sticker......

You pretty much hit it on the head. I'm not convinced it's an improvement and have some concerns about high speed stability, cooling of the engine bay in general by removing the undertray amongst other things. As Damian has instructed me in the meaning of Bling Bling I'd say the primary value of a V mount is for Bling Bling. Hope I used that right : ). It's a trend and I'm sure people will buy them like they bought a lot of the front mounts without really knowing a thing about what they were getting and what it would do. I won't debate it because nobody wants to admit making a mistake so it's kind of pointless : ) unless you could find someone that was truely unbiased, which I'm guessing we won't find here, me included. It's more of Honda crowd now days, not actual racing people IMHO.

I plan on racing, allthough I'm not a race car driver, don't want to re-kindle that argument...

The V-Mount seemed to me like an improvement over your setup, which I concidered, due to the larger surface area, and the fact that it had none of the problems of the FMIC, and from what I can see in my instructions I'm not going to have to remove the Lower Tray, it stays, the only improvement on this setup is to get more flow, which your setup would probhably benefit from as well, is a slotted hood, for proper ventilation.... I'm trying to stay unbiased here but like you said it's tough since I looked, made my choice, and read this thread, and still don't feel that I made a mistake. In the beginning I was hoping that you would attempt a better V-Mount than RE or HKS, but I guess you'd need to convice yourself, that it cools better...

Nope, the duct stays in the same spot, it's the core that has to shift toward the passender side.

Re.: "the BEER sticker", I didn't think anyone ever noticed that. As Cheezy as the sticker looks, a healthy BEER buz got me through the many long, frustrating nights in the garage...

If you want unbiased opinion, I can get you some. I have a customer switched from the M2/ASP to the Rotary Extreme V mount. Want more info and data?

Think about what you just said. I have a customer of my chosing who paid me a bunch of money to buy my product. I don't think that really qualifies as unbiased : ). I'm sure it's a wonderful product and congratulations for inventing / designing it. I have a lot of respect for people who create designs themselves as opposed to the losers who just try to copy stuff : P.

Chuck and Kevin. Yep, these two boys are definitely unbiased!! Tom

PS - I never had an ASP and laid out a bunch of cash for a v-mount so I'm most very definitely truly unbiased.

kevin can i get the large core only without the duct or piping? i have some plans for a custom setup. i see problems with the conventional smic implementation and big issues with v mount setups so im left to make my own.

Sorry no : (. I don't sell components. Just the kits as a whole. I'm sure you can order a similar core any number of places and fabricate some end tanks.
