just installed B&M shifter

well my buddy got me a B&M for a belated birthday gift..sniff sniff. car buffs always give the best gifts.
well first impressions after getting oily and greasy without driving it would be stiff. everything feels tightened up nicely. the shifter doesnt wobble like it used to, each gear is firmer, and im hoping this third gear misshift deal slowly goes away(torque brace helped a lot).
shifter sits a lot lower than before as it is mated to the same B&M polished Al shift ****. i like the light feel of the know so i can put it in gear not the weight of the **** pushing it in. all in all, very well worth it and a large thanks to my chevy enthusiast buddy. you the man ferns

I just got that thing, too. Yesterday, as a matter of fact. I like it a lot because it makes the shifts feel a lot more secure

The B&M shifter is awesome. It makes the shifter feel more solid. I would highly recomend it to everyone.

the b&m is really nice
it cuts down the throw 33% or so and the pettit does about 50%

I like it a lot it's amazing how it changes the whole feel of the car. I always say that should be one of the first mods a short throw shifter....

okay i finally got my first drive in the car with the short shifter. first quick shift to second went nice and the first quick shift to third...i wont comment on that. i hvae it down now though. i did notice that the shifter is now SOLID. everything is really tight and it doesnt go into gear as easy as before. nothing is binding, just how bad the old shifter was. also, i can feel the tranny notching when i go into each gear(vibration through the hand). im not feeling a grinding, but what i feel is vibration(am i repeating myself). should i be feeling the notch, or is it normal?
tell you what...you watch my godson(my buddies son) and im sure he will be more than happy to get you a cool gift like a short shifter for your birthday. kids are a handful and ill leave it at that. furthermore will be put in the lounge

I got mine B&M shifter 2 weeks ago, and I was just wondering, do you guys sometimes have problem geting it in 2nd gear. I mean it's not that it doesn't get in, but sometimes it's like it catches something and it goes a little harder than others.

Yep 2nd gear is tough to get in. But mine was like that stock too. Damn, double torque sensing synchros.

I like the short shifter, but I would ultimatlely trade it all for a smoother feel.

Try changing your tranny oil to Redline MTL. It made a huge difference in how smoothly it shifted.

I recently bought a Gotham Racing s.shifter for $10 below the B&M unit. As far as I know, they are basically the same thing though.

However the Mazdaspeed shortens the throw over 50% verses the 33% of the B&M (and it's replicas).

I have the RX-7 Store Short Shifter which is the same as the Mazdaspeed and it feels more like 66% shorter than 50%.

I've got the B&M and I don't have any problems with is so far. I like how it replaced the entire body of the shifter, unlike others that are sold for a lot more mula..

It's tight and a bit more difficult to get into gear the first couple hundered miles, but settles in very nicely after some use.

I installed one in my civic. and i absolutely love it. Im not too familair with the layout of the transmission of the FD but my civic exhaust bangs a little on my shifter. Dont you just love the ball bearing case? mine has something similar. its so clean and less hassle. than those cheap sticks with ***** where you have to remove the stock case and grease and put it on the new shifter. i highly recommend B&M

quick question for mahjik and anyone else that has the rx7store/MazdaSpeed Repica shifter...
im choosing parts for an auto to manual swap. does the rx7store short shifter have all the parts needed to put the shifter in, or will i need to get the stock shifter for other parts?

You still need the stock shifter, it's not a complete replacement. I believe the B&M (and it's copies) are complete replacements.

sorry, let me clear up what i was trying to ask... when i said 50% and 33% i was talking about the percentage shorter they are vs. the stock shifter.

Really? Mine felt really nice! As nice as stock, i'd say with a shorter throw of about 40% or so.

I'd say that any short shifter is nice. It makes it a lot more fun to shift!
