Cool Just Got My FD

Well I am now the proud owner of a 94 VR in great condition but I have a few questions. Does anyone have fairly detailed instructions on how to install a EBC? I searched around and never really found anything detailed. I'm fairly mechanically inclined as my VR4 is modded beyond BPU but I don't want to hurt anything on this car either. So a little help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have a few mods already done, Petit intake, GReddy SP catback and a PFS stockmount intercooler. Now would it be unwise to add a downpipe and Koyo radiator to the mix if I only have a Blitz EBC to control boost? I know a Power FC would be ideal but that will have to wait a little while. So would I be safe by just keeping the boost at stock levels and having the downpipe? I want to add a midpipe too but I definitely won't do that until I port the wastegates and add the PFC. Does this all sound alright?

Sorry for being a noobie but I just don't want to mess up the new car.

Thanks guys.

Downpipe is a must because well the precat is pretty much worthless. Wait out for the midpipe for sure. (or gut the cats like I did =P)

Im not completely sure on this but I think if you turn boost down and don't get on it until you get a PFC then you would be alright. Congratulations BTW.

Which ebc did you get? There's instructions on Rob Robbinets site for a Profec. They're all basically the same though.

If you haven't got one yet the Profec B is ideal, Profec A is worthless or anything with fuzzy logic or learns the boost pattern.

For a new owner you know a lot so far about the FD. You can definitely put the downpipe and rad on the car right now and not worry about the ECU. Make sure not to increase the boost if you are still going to use the stock ECU.

Your thoughts about the midpipe is correct. Also, be extremely careful when you install the midpipe. Make sure that you don't get a boost spike, which could lead to a blown engine.

Also, Demetrious is in MD, which he is know to be one of the best to work on an FD
1. MD
2. Reactive Racing
3. 443-745-5911

Also, there is a gathering of RX-7s at his house. Here is the link.

Yea if I were you, I would get a downpipe, and then leave it at that. Just stick to the 3-mod rule. You'll have a CB, DP, and Intake, and that's all you can pretty much have until you get an ECU. So, just get a downpipe, and don't do much performance mods until you get an ECU.

grab a downpipe and most importantly, a boost gauge. if the boost patter is ok, don't bother with the EBC yet.

then make sure you have an aluminum AST.

Maybe im too old school, but wtf is BPU? I see the term thrown around but no one has ever been able to tell me what it is...

btw welcome to the rx7 world... Its a much lighter, faster, and more stylin world than the one your used to enjoy!

Get the down pipe. Keep the boost at 10 until you upgrade from the stock ECU. I would wait on the midpipe until the rest is in order.

bpu which is now a trademark for some reason, just basically means intake, exhaust, and high(er) than stock boost. at least that's what i've been told.

Basic Performance Upgrades, basically a few bolt ons and higher boost. I think some Supra owner copyrighted the term.

I have the Blitz SBC-iD. I checked Rob's site and it didn't help as much as I would like because I would prefer to have a nice detailed diagram of what needs tapped into and what should be capped and all that, if anything needs capped.

Basically I just have the SBC-iD and a PowerMeter iD laying around and I would like to go ahead and put them in the car especially so I can make sure the car doesn't spike.

I do have a boost gauge already and its boosting fine but I don't want to add the downpipe then overboost.

Also, does the PFS intercooler do anything for power or is it just a reliability mod?

And would adding underdrive pullies be safe since thats not an exhaust mod?

Because I was thinking for Xmas I would just get myself a DP, Koyo radiator, aluminum AST, and underdrive pullies. Hopefully that would keep me content for awhile.

BTW, my FD right now has full suspension and brake setup. The engine has the catback, intercooler, intake, BOV, vacuum job, grounding system, the fan mod, and a few things I forget.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Didn't know you would be so friendly to a noobie.

definitely do the downpipe, radiator and AST if it is not done already. keep the main cat. drive it around and see how your boost is. if it starts creeping or spiking, then install the boost controller. each car is different, but you might need the boost controller to control spiking in the cold weather.

the intercooler is both power and reliability in my book on these cars. it will help power some as it makes the intake air cooler. cool air = more power. enjoy dude

Excellent advice so far.

But I have been looking all over for detailed pictures of how to install my Blitz SBC-iD on the car. I know how to do the electrical wiring and everything but what hoses do I need to tap into and everything? If anyone has some good detailed pics of an EBC installed and some good solid instructions on what I need to cap off and what I need to plug my solenoid into, I would really appreciate it.

I have the SBC & Power Meter on my FD. I will take some pics for you. However, it's in PA right now and I should have it back soon.

^^^^^

I would REALLY appreciate that. Just shoot me a pm or post in this thread whenever you get the chance. I can wire it up right.

Basically, I just need to know where to connect the IN and OUT hoses and what, if anything needs capped off.

Pictures would likely be a great help.

Please don't ever say "BPU" on this forum again. People will get angry It's a term not associated with RX-7's, cus we like to be different

But sounds lke a sweet car. Congrats on it.
