ok, well i am trying to make it in time for sevenstock so i just dropped the car off for paint to make it to sevenstock... im painting it a custom blue using "Glasso" paint which is used when painting high end cars... they say that it has a really good shine to it and it lasts!
well, i am taking the wing off and antenna and having them weld the holes today... i will take pics every day i can of the work being done... Stay tuned!

well, its of a higher quality... the reason that not a lot of people use it is because its expensive.....
a firend of my dad's is doing the work for me... he is the best painter around here... i have asked all of the body shops because my dad has a dealer and knows a lot of people here... they say he is the best but charges too much. i think they say that because they are trying to keep costs down as much as possible.
here is a website to the paint:
http://www.glasurit.com/
its called Glasso for short..... thats why i couldnt find any info on it and then 1revin3rdgen told me the real name....
here is what he pm'ed me:
"I know what paint your talking about its called Glassurit and yes it is high quality paint and i have used it a couple of times but not too many people are willing to spend that much on a paint job.All that you listed in what hes doing with the car is what we do when we give an estimate for a paint job so it's already included in the paint job.
Tom"

They may use it on European cars, but it's no better (or worse) than BASF, DuPont, Sherwin Williams, or any other automotive paint on the market. You're just paying for the name... and some hype, apparently.

I dunno Jim, but my painter seems to think it is better and I paid for it on this car.

There IS a difference in paint quality from brand to brand. I'm not saying this is the best but it isn't the worst! Sorta like Bosch does fuel injection and so does Haltech, Megasquirt, TEC, Apex'i, etc.
Many companies do software.
Lots of gas stations sell gas, where do you buy it at, the cheapest in town?
Oh and from what little I know it is called Glasurit.

I used Sherwin Williams base coat on my car because the color and finish were what mattered to me, not the name on the paint can. It was still $230+ per gallon, if high price makes it better. My painter decided to go with his shop's DuPont clear and we shelved the Sherwin Williams clear I'd bought for another project, only because of the time of year and climate conditions. Again, the finish was the priority, not a name brand to brag about.

im sorry if you took offense to anything that i said but admit that you say bad things alot and i really dont like that! also, if you never posted in this thread, and i got the paintjob with the "ripped off paint" and you looks way better, would it have changed your life as of right now??? no.... its called "waste of time".....
sorry!!
also, i may be 18 (17 for that matter) but what difference does that make? is it written somewhere as soon as someone under the age of 21 buys an fd, hes a smartass, ricer, fast and the furious guy, neon lights ect.... thats called steriotyping..

I guess it's the same as buying Chevron with techron. What's techron and will you even notice the difference?
Good luck on your car rzograbian. I'm sure will come out great

I wouldnt completely agree to that statement, and I only say that because things have changed so much within even the last 10 years. What we know now and what is common knowledge now compared to 10, 20, beyond 30 years ago is so differant that a statement like that isnt really a valid argument. It may be true, but not completely because we are more mature or bettering ourselves at a younger age, it is just a matter of education and the times.
As for the arguement about paint, paint quality does make a differance. While the differance between DuPont and S-W may not be all that noticable there are several brands that are signifigantly lower quality than either. I'd imagine there are others of higher standards; either over the initial shine or over the longevity of the paintjob. Another large factor is the painter, if they are a quality painter that really takes the time to get their work right, with either medium or high-grade paint it will still look good.
JimLab, I'm not going to go against you as I havent seen enough evidence of how you respond yet but I have seen people who were knowledgable an did some good things in the past but they presented themselves to others in a rude and condecending manner that set others off. I just hope that you arent that way and it is only the opinions of the few.
I hope everyone is done cutting at eachothers throats about paint-quality and age and can get back to the subject, an FD getting a cool new paintjob. Personally I'd say it is worth the effort to pull the drivetrain and paint the engine bay and tunnel. When my car goes down I intend to strip it to a rolling chassis and have it towed into the shop. Once there it will be painted 'Innocent Blue Mica' across the entire chassis and a new undercoat will be applied. I will trust my painter as to what paint to use, he is the pro and he has never led me astray before -- he painted my Tbird' and it came out beautiful afterwards.
