Since I'm in the process of unflooding my engine, I'm just curious what role ATF in the plug holes plays. Is it a more combustible liquid than gasoline? I believe I've read it helps compression, but why would you need to worry about that if you flooded the engine?

The extra fuel in the chambers washes the oil from the apex seals. The metal on metal situation doesn't seal good enough to create good compression, so the ATF helps make that seal.

It's supposedly a carbon solvent also. I've heard of piston guys using it to free stuck lifters.

works like a frigen charm but then the car smokes like a bizatch after for a minute

 

Mine didn't smoke that much - nothing like my FC did when I flooded it. Started right up and idled just fine
