Just bought my first RX7

Like the title says, I just bought my first RX7 the other day and I love it. I just wanted to say hello to everyone and I have a few questions as well.

Questions-
1. I have a set of Desmond Regamasters from my old S13 that I want to use on the FD. I belive the offsets might be a little too low though so I wanted to ask what you guys thought. 17X8 +35 and 17X9 +38
2. My FD has a quite a few engine mods (Street port, HKS intakes, HKS exhaust, and down pipe) but no radiator or ECU upgrade. Im trying to decided which of the two I should buy first. Im leaning towards the ECU upgrade but we have been having a lot of 100+ deg heat as well. What do you guys think?

I will post pix later but the file sizes were a little too large to attach. I will need to have a friend host em for me.

Welcome to Hell....lol..j/k I would go with the radiator first with that 100+ deg heat you are talking about. BTW do you have a/c?

I would get the ECU first, and then get it tuned! That is one big mod over the "3-mod Rule" and while it does change things, the stock rad should hold it's own fine in normal routine driving, given you don't have a FMIC in the way. Be sure to flush the coolant/ change thermostat/ and run a cheap fan switch (pull a/c relay if all else fails) while you wait for a bigger radiator. Can you monitor the temp's (Have a water temp gauge?) But an ECU is more important at this stage I'd say...

A bigger, aluminum radiator will help him out but proper ducting, A/C-killed fan switch, and fresh coolant flushes should do for now. I'd be more worried about running lean/rich which will happen non-stop if left untuned, than a possible sub-par cooling system that should be fine given it's healthy...

Yea, im really worried about running lean and poping the motor. It does have 3mm apex seals but that doesnt ease my mind much.

Stay outta heavy boost until you get a boost gauge installed. It's possible they installed a manual boost controller or the car simply still produces only 10-11psi. In that case, an ECU isn't necessarily required. The '3 mod rule' is a little archaic in that many experts agree it's the change in boost pressure that really makes the difference. I've got 3 mods and I'm adding a fourth, but my budget and goals don't support another ECU. So I'm throttling back the boost to stock 10psi.

Not saying that's your end goal, but to keep from popping the motor I'd start with that approach.

i would personally go with a power fc, it will take care of itself as far as the fan speed and you can also monitor your temp more closely....Enjoy your new money pit.

Cheers,
Eric

I would also go with the power fc and run base map until you feel you are finished modifying the car (unless your modifications require tuning). Base map should be fine with those mods for now.

btw: Make sure to check all the maintenance that the FD requires! (fuel filter, oil, ignition, ect. ect.)

The radiator is a lot cheaper, so it could depend on your budget.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

The car actually does have a boost gauge (The only gauge as well) and its running stock boost right now. I am also planing on going with a Power FC when I do upgrade the ecu and run the base map till I get a few more mods.

Pix are still coming.

Dude The First Thing You Should Get Is A Downpipe The Other Can Come Later, You Need To Get That Heat Away From Your Car Engine, Trust Me I Know Im At 122,656 Oem Miles So I Think I Did The Right Stuff, Then After That You Should Change Out Your Ast, Change Your Coolant, Get A Boost Gauge That Will Let You Know If Your Turbos Are Boosting To 10psi, You Dont Need The Pfc Just Yet, Then I Would Get A Catback, Greedy Duals Are Perfect I Had The Apexi Gt But Went To The Duals So Hope That Helps

Touge: Very clean. Some FD's seem to sit very high, perhaps my Koni shocks pulled my car down a bit, your car needs to be lowered! It will look 5x better, believe me!

Still a nice FD, of course
