Just bought 93 FD!

Well... I bought my 93 FD a few weeks ago and am very pleased so far. I recently drove it from Louisville to Atlanta and back with only one issue that I hope is not as serious as it seems.. After driving for a while and stoping for gas on the way back, I noticed that there was some smoke coming from the engine bay near the driver side firewall. I think it smells like an oil leak. Any ideas what may be the cause?

Anyway, I have a 93 touring with dual oil coolers, fluidyne radiator, aluminum AST, gotham racing streetport stage 1 engine and new turbos with about 19k on them, and recently installed downpipe. I am planning on perm install of a boost gauge, water temp gauge and A/F gauge next.... Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Hope you find the source of the smoke. I don't have any better guess other than what you already said. Obviously, keep a close eye on that though. Nice mods for now by the sounds of it. Is the ECU stock? Maybe do that next??

re: A/F gauge....are you getting wideband? if not, I'm told the other economy A/F gauges are useless.....which sucks cause the good ones are a few bucks, I know.....

The ECU is stock and as far as the A/F gauge, I haven't done my homework yet... I'm hoping that someone here will have a good guess as to the cause of the smoke because that will be the first place my $$ goes to along with a boost gauge. Off to search the forums on boost gauge install

you should REALLY concider geting power FC..... running those mods on a stock ECU is a really bad idea.

Driver side could be break fluid burning off? Check you level then drive around and check it again. The break light should come one once it gets to low. The clutch line runs right there to it uses break fluid as well so i'd check that. My .02

mine did something similar, but, turned out to be the turbo return lines. Radiator fans pushed the smoke back around the engine bay. Is easy to diagnose from under the car. Look for the drips!

There's nothing on the drivers side that really gets hot enough to "smoke", as for oil, I'd look closely at the oil pressure sending unit, and around the filter. If you saw smoke I'd suspect the coolant hose from the TB to the block or the heater hose to the block. Oil leake would be fairly obvious, coolant will evaporate if it small.

what mods? a down pipe and a streetport... All he needs to do is make sure that he only boosts 10 psi (god I'm really starting to get tired of always repeating myself).

When is the myth about needing an ECU just because you change something in the exhaust gonna end?

True, you don't need a PFC for those mods. You just gotta make sure you don't run boost or have boost creep over 10 lbs and you should be ok. You can always port the wastegate if it does happen.
