just amazing engineering!

Every time I work on my car I am surprised at the engineering that went into it. Take the undertray for example. Looks simple at first, but then you notice there are all these ducts and vents molded into it.

DOH!

Well, SOME things obviously fall thru the cracks....lol!

Reminds me of the line in the movie 'The Gumball Rally' (one of my all time favorites!) where the racers all have left the garage in New York on their way to Los Angeles, all except the Jaguar XKE. All thru the movie you see them futilely trying to start the Jag. At one point they are under the car, and one guy says "It's a pretty design....." and the other guy replies, "I just wish it worked!"

Classic.

Email them at Malloy and find out, every time I have emailed them during business hours I have a response within the hour. Lets play "The Price is Right" and see who gets this one, I say $225.

If it's $179 that aint bad. I believe I heard the front fender liners are $116 a piece I could use new one's of those as well.

It is around $150-200 for the belly pan depending on discount. If it is damaged or missing you should get a new one on the car ASAP.

i believe all those little ducts bring fresh air up through the radiator.

Without the undertray very little air would flow through the radiator. It would all go around it.

The bottom half is to help smooth airflow underneath the car, since it attaches to the front lip of the bodywork. The upper half is to help manage airflow in the radiator nacelle, since the radiator isn't positioned vertically due to space concerns.

not having this underbelly pan is one of the main reasons so many fd's have over heating problems =)

the crack is very small, and is only on the botton piece. if its just used to smooth airflow, then the crack shouldnt affect cooling right?

I remember when my under caradge looked like that. Too bad I had cut it up to fit my oil cooler lines.

Now why didn't they engineer the rest of the car this well? hmmmm

As long as it's small, you should be OK. It's when you have big gaping holes in it, or it's fastened improperly, or left off altogether where you'll have problems.

The apex seals are fine for stock engines and their level of power. It's when everyone started hopping up the motor that problems occurred.

Uh...have you even LOOKED at the damned thing?

It has dedicated channels and ducts for the airflow to go to various places.
It really is pretty cool, considering most domestics' that I've worked on are just flat pieces of ****.

I agree bajaman,
I look at my FD sometimes and am amazed too. In a lot of ways this car was so ahead of it's time. And not just in it's engineering (although getting that much out of 1.3 liters is cool) But just look at it. How many other cars do you know of whose style has aged so well over the past 10 years?
