Thumbs up The Jason (Sesshoumaru) FD exterior build thread

I forgot to take a pic for the "before" lol. Here is what happened for day 1. The plans for this car will be fixing the dings and respraying the car Brilliant Black instead of the unknown black that it is now. Also will be installing a '99 spec bumper and spoiler. The deadline for this project will be Jan 3. I have 2 weeks off from school and other than a few X-mas things with the family, I dont really have anything else to do. This one's gonna go fast so hold on and enjoy the pics!

Got most of the car tore down and cleaned for the most part. Not really much to say now, so Ill just post pics.

As you may or may not be able to see in the pics - the worst part of the car is the hood and sunroof areas. Tomorrow I will update with the fixed dents on the chassis. Later on, the hood and sunroof along with other extra pieces (all parts not chassis) will be straightened.

I assume this is what you linked me to on AIM Ian??? Nice stuff so far. I can't wait to pick your brain on bodywork in March with my rust bucket.

Keep up the awesome work. I noticed the dings in the sunroof, that looks painful!

Diego - I could respray your car but after Jason's FD and then finishing Angie's FC and then of course Eric's FC. So, yeah I guess pick a number lol. I would like to do an 8 for 2 main reasons - 1 just to tear one apart and see how its put together and 2 (the big one) no rust... mmmmmm

On with the update:

First few pics are all the dings circled so you can all see them better. Not sure why I didnt do that before... Also not all of the dings will need to be filled with body filler, or pryed (sp?) back up (I dont have the pry bars anyways) as block sanding will fill in the really small ones.

The next series of pics is after the larger dings were filled and most of the car was sanded/scuffed ready for the first coat of primer once the doors and hatch are removed along with removing the sunroof seal.

More updates tomorrow. The plan is to have the doors off and jambs sanded/scuffed along with the hatch being removed and its jamb sanded/scuffed. Then the car will be shot with the primer surfacer and blocked out.

Edit: On the hood, the circles with the X in them means that they are high.

ya it was Eric's (Edogg) present for her.

- The 3biggest reason I had it repainted was

1.) 99 spec parts
2.) paint flaking from previoius paint job in door jams/trunk area
3.) Certain areas weren't buffed out properly

Your kid is extremely cute Jason, congrats! And congrats to Eric for picking out the sweet *** rotary hat!

I myself can't wait to see this done too. I myself thought the car looked great before, so it can only go up from there.

Yes, being relatively straight to begin with has helped with the "2 week deadline" that I have made for myself. I have a friend helping with the tear down and a few other minor tasks which helps alot.

OK, so heres a huge update.

Got the car tore down the rest of the way.

After removing the sunroof top metal piece we realized there was some rust starting to form under the sunroof seal. The edge was ground down and etch prime was sprayed on the bare metal to stop the possible rust that was under there.

Next the rest of the parts that we are spraying so far along with the jambs were scuffed and then the entire car was taped off.

Next the pieces and main chassis were sprayed with the primer surfacer so the pieces can be block sanded.

I will have new pics later this evening of the car before and after block sanding. Enjoy and stay tuned for more updates.

Looks great man! nice work.
Is there a different approach to sanding/painting carbon fiber? I plan to get a trunk and maybe doors and wanted them color matched to car. You know if its as easy as doing regular metal?
Thanks

I would think so. I wouldnt see how it would be any different than painting a fiberglass part. Ive never painted carbon fiber so I can only assume.

So now the latest update (try to keep up with me here).

Got all the primered parts except the sunroof panel block sanded. We decided to finish off the sunroof panel with the hood and accessory parts. Not much area in the garage for painting so many pieces.

Heres pics of all the block sanding after the fact. Enjoy:

The plan is paint tomorrow...
