The Jason (Sesshoumaru) FD exterior build thread
I didnt take pics of the sealer step as its just more gray. We did have a small problem with the paint gun cap not seated properly so a few drips happened on one of the doors so we didnt go any further on it. The chassis, driver door, and hatch were painted and cleared though.
Pics of paint:

Pics after clearcoat. You may notice some dust specs - this is pretty normal for the garage paint job and can be easily sanded/buffed out.
Clear applied:

The plan is to sand/buff out the parts tomorrow afternoon after all the X-Mas stuff is over. May or may not get everything done. I may get sloppy drunk... Who knows.

sorry if this is a dumb question..
but if u don't remove the windshield and rear glass when repainting
doesn't the paint get really then near the edges of the rubber trim and crack and peel easily?

The neat thing about the FDs (in this case) is those seals you mention are very soft so I stuck a round shoelace under them around the windshield and rear glass which in turn holds the seal edge up in the air. This lets the paint go underneath the edge making no hard paint line from masking as the masking tape is also up at an angle since it's stuck to the seals. When all said and done the shoelace will be removed and the seal will relax back down and then hopefully no one will know I was there.
Built the motor drunk too...... well the last part when the alcohol started to kick in.......
I just remember tighten'n the tension bolts was a bitch........... so .... many......
That is not a dumb question at all.

wow.. that's a great idea!
do u have a close up pic of the any of the lace?
or did u do it insections as u painted?
Ahhh the good old days hahaha
I lifted up the seal (which is very soft) and pushed it into the gap with a thin plastic object (bondo spreader) and it fit right in there. In fact if you pushed too hard it would go in relatively far. Far enough to where it fits into a deeper groove and allows the seal to rest back in its original place. It COULD be used as a small stash spot (if you wanted to stash something long and thin). The shoelace I used was the round kind like you get in boots.
I typed this using my brand new bluetooth keyboard! Woo Im such a nerd but it doesnt matter cuz this thing is awesome!!!
New progress pics tomorrow afternoon/evening of the car sanded out and ready for buffing. X-Mas stuff has taken alot of my normal "work time" away these last few days.
Actually, he put me in one while i was holding the breaker bar, and when he grabbed me i loosened my grip on the bar and it slid through my hand it hit him... Its not like i clubbed him over the head or tried to knee cap him!
if memory serves me, that happened right after I rode to the gas station in the hatch area of someone's FC to get more beer, and the cops in the store were laughing at me because i was too inebriated to grab a hot dog off the hot rollers with the little plastic tongs.

As of right now the only update I can give is that the chassis and the driver door will be sanded back down and repainted as there was way too much dirt/dust in the paint to be acceptable. I will look at the hatch to see if it is acceptable in its current shape or not. A plan has been devised to limit the amount of dirt possibly going into the paint for next time. I thought the amount of dirt was acceptable but after sanding and polishing it was found this was not the case. Im still hopint to have most of the car put back together by the end of next weekend, but will most likely not be 100% complete. I will post more pics when I have something worth posting.

So I got an update for you guys. The chassis, driver door, and hatch were repainted along with the headlight covers, passenger door, passenger mirror (ran the paint on the driver one - doh), fuel door, and both of the mirror pedastals.
I'll snap a few pics of the buffing progress as it happens starting tomorrow. Much less dirt in the paint this time, and is most definitely acceptable as 90% of it will sand/buff out this time.
