j-spec turbos

Can anyone tell me if j-spec turbos will bolt right up in place of my 93 twins? I'm considering a set and don't know if there are differences I should be aware of (y-pipe for example? oil lines routed the same?)

And does j-spec infer '99 j-spec with the associated turbine differences etc? Or are these probably the same turbos as my 93 twins? I don't know what year they are.

I've asked the seller these same questions, but thought I'd do some information gathering from the collective as well... Thanks.

Yes they will bolt right up. I would make sure of what I was getting. Jspec could be from any year made in japan. I would make sure they were 99+ turbos.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Yes, they should bolt up if they are for an FD. There is an updated primary inlet elbow, but I believe the seal and bolt pattern is the same.

Beware, I've seen Cosmo twins for sale on eBay and listed as FD turbos, and I've also seen plenty of people screw up the difference between 99-spec and regular 92-98 turbos. I don't know the differences enough to tell you details, but if I were buying I would need very good confidence the seller isn't conveniently stupid or scamming.

Thanks Dan, Dave... here are some pics if it helps, and I get the feeling Kahren generally knows what he's dealing with... https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=488215

Those are cosmo turbos. "13B-RE" does not imply 3rd gen RX-7 (3rd Gen = 13B-REW), and J-spec does not imply 99-spec. He made no misleading claims that I can see.

Fantastic - advice worth at least $260! And I learned something to boot.

Beers are on me should we ever have the opportunity
