step 1) pop off air vent cover to door vent

2)unscrew bottom trim peice/"floor"vent(3 screws)

3) unscrew 3 screw to the steering column cover on the underside and take off the ring around the ignition switch

4)take out 2 steering column bolts(14mm)

5)unscrew 2 screws in the bottom of the gauge pod facing you.

6) CAREFULLY AND FROM THE BACK of the pod pull it out of the dash releasing the 3 clips in the back. basically you have to palm the back dome of the pod with both hands and hug it off. it may take a try or two but it does come off this way. too soft and youll just get frustrated... too hard and youll get even more frustrated lol.

7) on each side of the wires connectors push the tabs and pull to release. take pod off.

8)flip over and unscrew 4 screws to remove the gauge cluster itself.

**do not pull on the pod from the front or it will snap in the back... a new one is 400 dollars at mazda and they only have 3 left in the country... i got the forth.**

to get the cluster apart simply take out the two screw in the front and release the BLACK clips all the way around... the clear ones dont matter as they are just for the clear cover. all guages bolt in the back with small screws.

You also missed that you have to take out the center consol (where the shifter is) to get at the screws for the panel that the hvac and stereo are. Remove the screws at the base of that panel and pull it out revealing the one screw that needs to be undone inorder to pull out the cluster. Then you can finish pulling the cluster out.

Instructions

I got this from the thread that was started about tach repair. It tell you all the screw and gives pictures, DON'T FORGET THE ONE SCREW THAT'S LOCATED BEHIND THE VENT BETWEEN THE DOOR.

Not all dash are constructed as in their FSM. However, it's not too hard to figure out the difference just by looking. My '95 is slightly different from the '95 manuals.

Make sure you pad all of the guts in the steering column after you remove the column cover, otherwise it's very easy to scratch the guage hood finish when it jerks back out of position, or when you're trying to unhook/hook all of the guage plugs.

Also, I used a plastic spatula around the backsite of the pod to help seperate it from the dash.
