It's Monday. My car is screwed. Now with pics!
I was getting ready to go out the door to work this morning when my neighbor knocked on the door and told me I should get outside and check my car. My car was parked under the carport (as was a neighbor's) when a city garbage truck backed into the carport and collapsed it on top of the cars. Considering the circumstances the damage could have been much worse but the roof just over the passenger door of my car is buckled pretty badly.
The garbage truck backed into the roof of the carport which buckled the legs of the structure. It then folded back until the legs strucks my car, ripped out of the ground and then the roof collapsed on top of it. The city brought in a crane, a front end loader and a large forklift to raise the carport while also trying not to damage the cars any further.
Suprising to my neighbors I did not assault the garbage truck driver or turn into a raging lunatic. I'm still just stunned. That driver has pulled in here hundreds of times and this time backs into the friggin carport; it's nuts. A few years ago my car was parked in front of the house and was hit and run. The entire left side had to be repaired. Now the roof too. Crazy.
I should have pics from the insurance adjustor for the city within the next day or two. I don't know how much the repair will be but it seems to me it will be expensive since the roof structure itself is bent. I don't think it bad enough to be a complete loss but it won't be easy to fix I'm sure.
If I had left for work 5 minutes earlier my car wouldn't have been there. Actually I wasn't even supposed to be home with the car. I was supposed to be racing in Houston but I cancelled that trip a week ago because we're buying a house and I decided not to spend the money. This is ridiculous.

That really sucks! With all of the other things that we have to worry about with these cars it's a shame that you've had that much bad luck with others causing the problems!

personally, but this is just me, I would have pulled that driver aside and calmly ask him to bend over so I could shove my foot up his ***, and if he didn’t do so I would have basically taken a nut for a souvenir, but thats just me....

Damon,
Sorry to hear the news. Backing a truck into a carport...a small low vehicle sitting in a blindpsot I can undertand but a building? C'mon...where did this driver get his license...what a moron!
Keep your chin up and think that every cloud has a silver lining and maybe something positive will come out of this....like a big FAT settlement check
Regards,
Crispy

You guys should have seen the circus of raising the carport off the cars. My neighbor took some pics and I may get some from the adjustor too. You guys won't believe it.

Damon,
Sorry to hear that you had some bad luck. Just another reason to be thankful you are getting into a new house (with a garage) soon.
Good luck on the repairs, and let me know if I can help!
Take care

no vid?
What makes it worse is you also have to take care of your carport, too, not just the car...
For me, I'd feel better if someone else screwed up my car... for 2 reasons (off the top of my head)
1. I get mad at myself enough already... I'd rather get mad at someone else!
2. If I did it, my wife would roll her eyes and tell me about how much more money I've spent on the car...
I'm not sure which is worse -- the former or the latter!

sucks *** man
I would have to agree with blackrx7turbo that I would want someone else to blame for car being damaged because I am pissed at myself enough already for the stupid stuff I do. If I was angry at someone else I could at least take out the anger- and spend a night in jail
Hope everything works out man

Man, it's bad enough to damage it while driving, but to have it damaged in a deal like that really sucks!
Sorry to hear it.

Damn... Sorry to hear about your car bro'. I feel your pain, my car was hit in a parking lot unattended awhile back by a careless driver. Hope you get it back on the road again soon!
