introducing my 94 fd BB PEP in progress (pics)

Hi all. I bought my fd in mid april of '05 and I've been working on restoring it. When purchased there was extensive damage to the roof from a tree that had fallen on it on the passenger side. The windshield had been smashed and replaced but bodywork on the vehicle was poorly done. A thick layer of bondo was used to cover up the damage, and had cracked under the stress of driving the past 3+ years. Because of the poor quality of the previous bodywork, the sunroof fitment was bad, and thru the multiple body filler cracks, water and moisture had caused parts of the body and frame to rust.

So I purchased a chopped off used roof from a '94 touring which was used as the transplant roof. From that same touring shell I acquired a glass moonroof.

Fender and Bumper damage I fixed in my garage with spray-can primer, paint, and clearcoat. Turned out pretty good, but the process took some getting used to.

Thanks to the rx7club for supplying me with parts and information

I'll keep the page updated, there's lots to be added.

The real work on the exterior started the past 4-5 weeks. I'm not doing the roof replacement myself , that's being done at Imperial Auto Body http://www.imperialautobody.com

From what I've seen they are doing a great job, although a bit slow. I haven't picked up the car yet, the paint is curing and will be colorsanded etc this week.

I'll be putting in a new suspension once the car is bad in my hands. Bushings and all.

I'm keeping this one as long as I can keep it running Thanks for the luck, and sorry about the webpage, looks like I went over my cheapo bandwidth for the day.

That's great! I love to see enthusiasts bring an amazing car back to life rather than the ricers beat them to death. Amazing, keep up the good work and the pictures!

Good luck with the project man. Sounds like a lot of work but the finished product will definetly be worth it.

update:

picked up the car today.

the shop managed to damage my hood with dings, damage the paint -- it was covered with discolored blotches, specks, pocks or whatever. same paint damage on my light covers. -- they colorsanded and buffed it which got rid of most of it. i had to return 3 hrs later to pick it up. now its covered with scratches from the colorsanding, and places of primer showing where they took off too much of the paint..

also they added 4 new paint scuffs down to the primer on various places on the car, trunk hatch, driverside quarter, passengerside fender. i had them touch it up but it looks... touched up.

car came back with a LAYER of silicone based vinyl/rubber conditioner sprayed everywhere... took me a while to wipe it all off.

windshield cowel is installed wrong. its pushed off to the driverside ~1/2 cm so it look crooked and i can see the EDGE of the windshield glass on the bottom corner of the passenger side. i'll have to redo that myself, and plus one of the 2 of the bolt caps are broken. 1 is barely hanging on with a crack down the middle. the other i found hiding in the pocket between the hood/fender. HMM interesting.

plus there is some kind of white overspray on my passengerside dash that i had them clean off, but the rh windshield wiper is covered in specs of the dried stuff.

overall.. the roof repair and painting/quarter blending were done perfectly. but the rest of the car was beat the **** up.
