Ask Ray how much a single interior door panel costs. You might want to stop at that point. Someone on this board reported replacing almost all the interior panels - at a cost of about $10k.

Might be cheaper to sell your car and buy a mint low mileage one.

Ray is the cheapest source for OEM pieces, and believe me, they aren't cheap.

Also, Mazda has discontinued most of the 94/95 pieces, I believe you can only buy 93 pieces now.

there's always a few postings in the classifieds for panels.

whats the compete diffrence between the 94 and 93 interiors
93's came with a satin coated finish on all the dash and center console paneling as well as the door handle area/arm rests. they were replaced with the same finish as the rest of the plastics (textured) since the 93 satin finish was prone to peeling and was easily scratched, but it did look a lot nicer when it was in good condition. the updated textured finish looks cheap since there is no contrast between the interior plastics.

I swear if someone were to manufacture aftermarket door panels in black with all the requisite handles/storage things either built in or eliminated, used nice non-brittle plastic, and sold them for a reasonable price -- say $200 per panel... They'd probably sell to half the members of this club. A few months ago, I was eyeing the door panels of my roommate's car enviously and he was driving a Focus!!! How hard can it be with everyone and their dog already making fiberglass/CF bumpers, hoods, doors, hatches, fenders, etc.

True. There has to be someone out there who does it. Some time ago i was wondering the same thing... since OEM interior panels are way too expensive.

My gut feeling (from a product marketing standpoint) is that the majority of FD owners who are the people looking to upgrade their interiors aren't going to be predominantly interested in having their car look like a racer/ricer, never mind the additional expense incurred by using CF. I was imagining something more along the lines of a molded plastic panel that blends in correctly with the rest of the interior trim/finish such that to the untrained eye it looks OEM, but without the nightmarish brittleness of the factory pieces. Also something that has a good solid feel to it, where the factory pieces feel fragile and creaky. Just my 2 cents, but that's what I'd pay real money for.

Given the cost of OEM parts think about the alternatives out in the market. I did my center console in leather - there is a thread someplace on the board --when I had the seats recovered by a custom shop after market - Trimcar - seach them on the web. There are many who asked if I did the door panels in leather - mine are still very nice - but if yours are in ok shape it can be done for less than an OEM plastic or you can even go aftermarket with other custom products less costly than leather - those cars at Barrett Jackson with nagahyde are redone with aftermarket products. You just need to search out the custom shops in your location. Search the forum and you will see some great work on interiors by the members. Unless you have some vision of a vintage OEM fd there are alot of options and cost levels.

aluminum door panels would be light and durable, more cost effective and easier to fabricate

The door panels are identical, the plastic accent pieces are whats different on them. So a black door panel is the same as a 94 or 95, the plastic inserts for the 93 are satin rubberized coated, and the 94 95 are textured finish.

I actually found a website called mazdapartscheap.com where you can buy anything and everything for the car, including all brand new interior panels, BUT let me warn you this website is by no means "cheap", just a LITTLE cheap than the dealer but not much. What I do like is that I can get an idea of the prices of parts

Ray's # is 888 533 3400. He offers an rx7club discount, and being that he owns a modded FD, you don't need part numbers, just describe to him what you're looking for

Last I heard, the interior panels (the door panels themselves) were discontinued...

Oh and I've considered looking into making the door panels (out of better quality material etc) but the issue is you'd have to have a LARGE number of them prepaid and presold to be able to do it, because the cost of making a mold for such a part would be prohibitive otherwise... Just a thought.

no they still make the door panels, but are very expensive they cost about $1400, to $1500 each, totally not worth the money, so if the old ones are fine its better to just maby clean and repaint them and bring thme back to life.It might be cheaper to custome fabricate new door panels out of a better quality material. Oh and I wil make sure to keep "Ray" in mind before I replace anything, this sounds like a pretty good deal

Ernesto, when did you check if they were still available? Because I checked about a month ago, and they were officially discontinued (94s and 95s).
