intercooler or wheels

i have a dp, cb and pfc. my next purchase was going to be an IC and intake, but seeing how i won't be going to thunderhill for their driving school anytime this year i'm thinking maybe i'll wait on the power upgrades and get some new wheels. comes out to about the same money. so what do you guys think? keep my ugly polished stock wheels and get an IC and intake or get some ssr gt1's?

Twin Turbo Bao

I have a friend named Bao, we used to work together and when he answered the phone to say "Hi this is Bao" Everyone always thought his name was Bob. He didn't care though he thought it was as funny as the rest of us.

Sorry didn't mean to change subjects but that made me think of it.

As for which you should get? I would probably get the intercooler and intake... But I know those wheels would look good too. It's a hard choice but I still say intercooler and intake..

Well, if you are picking between SSR's and an IC, I'd say IC!

However, pick some different wheels, then I'd say the wheels! I wish I had gotten wheels a while ago. Oh well.

i believe wheels will cost a lot more than intercooler and intake? I think if you get some good wheels and some good wide tires, it will come out to about 2000+. Unless you find something used, then the price will come down. When you get the intercooler, you might as well just custom your own intake. Intercooler/intake combos are tricky. Then it comes down to looks vs. performance for you.

i tell people it's bao, pronounced like "bow down"

i figure IC and intake would be around 1500, and a set of ssr gt1s is like 1500 w/o tires. don't want to afford volks, aren't they like 500 a piece...

looks aside guys who have upgraded wheels can you really feel the difference? like when drive do you say damn, that's 2k well worth spent

I want new wheels so that I can put autox tires on my stock ones and street tires on some SSR Comps or so.

I would have to say it depends on how strong your engine is. I don't see spending $1500 on engine upgrades that are gonna make the car more reliable too justified if it is going to blow soon anyways. How many miles do ya got? Maybe get a compression check and full tune up and then see where you stand. However if I had the choice between wheels or Intake and IC, i would go for the wheels. Just makes the car so much more complete IMO.

103k original engine and turbos baby!!! i'm living on borrowed time...yea, i think i'm leaning towards the wheels now. adding an intake and ic and increasing boost will probably just make the engine go sooner. plus i don't even drive the car to its max as of now and i probably don't need more power for the time being....thanks for the input guys.

I am for the IC and Intake - you can always take care of your wheels later... got to make her breathe better.

Normally I would say IC/midpipe/Pulleys or IC/Ignition...but your engine is living on borrowed time.

...might as well get rims. They sure as hell dont' ADD power...just transfer the power you have to the ground better. And you'll stop better too.

Rims...

if you have a boost controler couldnt you just get the intake and IC then turn your boost down? would that help the situation out at all? if so thats what i would do.

The Power FC has a boost controller built into it. The problem is that you can't LOWER the boost past a certain point...

As i understand it, the stock IC, along with the stock intake are like hose clamps on a snake.... some fuel gets thru... but very slowly..... Your stock main cat will help with boost creep controll. However, the quality of air to engine will allow you to make more safer hp. Include a Efini Y pipe, and you will have safe usable hp... Carter

hey jspec, what if you had a seperate boost controler, say like a blitz sbc-id, could you lower your boost more than with the power fc?

Nope, no difference. I think the lowest boost you can get is 7psi. Unless of course you have a boost leak somewhere ... even then, your turbo's are making the boost, it's just bleading out of the system.

Engine Fund

Forget both of them unless you already have $7k in the bank for the motor and turbos. Sounds like your already primarily enjoying your 7 for the looks......so rims. I spend most of my extra money(?) trying to keep it good to GO.
