Intercooler fitment

Hi!

Probably I will go against all here, but here is what I want from my car:
1. Be quiet
2. Be reliable
3. Look original

Currently I have:

1. Downpipe, bonez car, Trust catback
2. Trust intercooler (stock mount) and Old Greddy intake
3. Greddy blow-off
4. PFC
5. Fluidine rad.
6. Underdrive pulleys

I just went over all vacuum hoses (silicone hoses), did wire harness fixes/rewrap. Cleaned injectors, fuel hose kit, water hose kit. All intake gaskets, etc.. All this for leaking oil nozzle..

Anyway. I like engineering and I like stock looking things. So, #3 goes for sure
I also don't see a point in Intake. Especially that foam is all rotten and replacement is crazy $$$

#6 goes too. I want AC and other accessories to work properly.

I like intercooler, but I don't think I can fit stock airbox and cover. Is there intercooler that will fit with all other stock plastics? No FMIC..

Basically, I want my engine bay look stock.

I'm not after crazy powers. Maybe little over stock will be fine. I like PFC and will keep catback (also not the one I have - too loud).

As far as gauges - I like stock look as well. I replaced oil pressure sender. Will wire "check engine" for PFC and will make linear mod for coolant gauge. Boost gauge will be hooked up just for diagnostics.

What you think? Yes, I read all reliability mod threads, etc.

looks like your pretty much set.

i have all my stock parts left that you prob want. they are in mint condition with only 50k miles of useage. i am not looking to get a whole lot for them, but i would def be willing to trade them, alone with cash for your pully's(also your innercooler if you wanted to get rid of that also).

some things that slipped my mind...

might want to consider getting an alunimum ast if you dont already have one. the stock ast sometimes burst at the nipple splashing coolent all over your bay. also changing out your differental and transmission fluid.

here is a maintainence site i saved for future reference:

So, is there aftermarket intercooler that replaces stock and retains all other piping, etc?

What piping?

You already have an IC that is considered a stock replacement. The next step up is something like an ASP large and that surely doesn't look stock.

There are quite a few smallish stock mount intercoolers that will fit with the stock battery box and stock intake. Blitz, Greddy, and ARC have ones that are stock sized.

Attached is a pic from someone on the forum that I saved - they got a Blitz stock mount and powdercoated the end tanks satin black. Same for the intercooler hard pipes and intake hardpipes. Looks REALLY good, stock at first glance. Best thing is it's stock but doesn't perform like stock .

^That's Natey's I/C.

If you're looking for a reduction in sound, look into purchasing a Racing Beat Dual tip catback. Beautiful exhaust, excellent sound; but a little pricey, around $500.

I believe the Greddy SMIC fits fine with all of the stock equipment. If not, the ARC SMIC, SR Motorsports SMIC, Blitz SMIC, and I *think* the Pettit Coolcharge II SMIC should.

Yep. That looks excellent. I don't think mine will fit though. It looks bigger then one on picture and looks very "custom made"

Sorry to bring back an old post. I am just wondering if you ever got an SMIC to fit with the stock airbox and ducting?

Yes, I got Blitz intercooler powdercoated and it looks just like in DaleClark's image. It was year or two(?) ago and it works fine since then. I think I had to cut one mount out of air box.

I don't remember. I think plastic ear on airbox had to go.

What about the old RE Amemiya SMIC? Will it fit stock equipment as well? I believe the old RE Amemiya SMIC is very similar to the GReddy SMIC and the Trust SMIC.

I just want to keep the stock air box, air duct and battery there, just to keep the engine bay as stock-look as possible. I like the idea of it looks stock, but performance is not stock...

The Blitz is nice, but is relatively rare. I ran the SR Motorsports one for a while and was happy with it. These can be picked up relatively cheaply used.

It works well with the Pettit duct. It also works with the stock duct but coverage is not great. Here is a picture (the battery is relocated here but it fits with it):

Here is my RE-Amemiya SMIC installed pic. I still have a stock air box and stock battery. It was a very tight fit.
