Has anyone made a shroud and electric fan that mounts on the back of the stock or stock-mount intercooler?

If money was no object, I'd buy a 99-spec front end and intake parts, but this seems like a simpler/easier solution to the stock IC airflow problem.

I have heard of this on other cars . They take small 12v fans and mount them on the back of the IC. I don't know how well this works, but it's worth a try.

I haven't seen an entire shroud created, but Max has a write up on his solution:

Thanks, I'm not sure why I hadn't remembered seeing that on his site.

that's what i'm doing in a week or so... gonna fab up some cf ducts with either a 10" or 12" fan pushing air into the stock ic. I dont think there's enough space behind the stock ic... those with aftermarket smic could make that work tho, cooling the engine bay at the same time..

I had a ducati motorbike fan to the stock IC for a while. Also I installed a temp sensor in the plastic outlet pipe of the stock IC. I thought I might try it out to slow down heat soak while in heavy traffic. Waste of time going to the trouble of installing it. Doesnt make any noticeable difference on temp.

I just bought this IC for a few hundred bucks, hopefully its alot better than the stocker.I'll try it with an 8inch IC fan.

The air inside the IC reaches near super sonic speed do you honestly think that a fan is going to make that much of difference? It all about surface area, flow and pressure drop.

IF it were me I'd spend a couple hundred bucks on a simple water injection system, and spray it into the outlet of the IC. Or maybe even split the output between a mist onto the IC core as well as injection into the intake. Just don't run out of water. I don't find it to be a problem even on my setup which uses a big nozzle, and I only use a 2 quart tank. I can make about 70 WOT runs before I get anywhere near low on my tank.

I was thinking this exact thing. I was thinking of using the windshield sprayer since everything was already in place, just extend the lines. I never use it and once I get a CF hood I won't have a place for them anyways.

I know its been done thoughts on effectiveness?

I went to Home Depot and bought spray nozzles normally used for home garden watering systems and used extra silicone vac hose to hook them up to a coolant tank and univ water pump from autozone. I hung 4 of them across the top of the nose opening in front of my V Mount and aimed them up so they sprayed in the right direction. Going up mountain passes in CO my intake temps Do Not rise if I keep the spray on but that empties the tank pretty quick. Handy when you just passed a cop coming down while doing 3x the speed limit. 4 is probably overkill but it did drop intake temps about 3x quicker than no spray per PFC Commander. Driving around town at low speed I would see temps rise, give it 10 sec of squirt, then about 20-30 sec later the temps would drop 10+ c if I stayed moving. I also hung a 8" fan on the top of the IC to help move air at low speed. Next up - vented hood to move more air.
