Intake opinions..
Hey fellas. Just a real basic question here. I went to the archeives and did a few searches. They have yet to yield favorable results. I'll be picking up my FD later this week, and I'd like to place an order on an intake right now, as to have it ready. Money isn't an object. I've narrowed it down to 3 set-ups. I hope you guys can help me narrow it more.
-GReddy Airinx
-Apexi(one w/2 filters)
-M2
People that actually have these intakes pleases respond. I don't wnat to write off GReddy just yet because the general opinion of foam filters is rather poor. I realize Apexi may flow more, but apparently its hot air. Lets hear what you guys think.

It is commonly heald that the Pettit and Apexi intakes are the better of the open cone variety. M2 and RX7 Fashion being the better of the closed cold-air box variety. The arguement over which is better has raged forever. Bottom line, whichever style YOU like better.

I've had the M2 aluminum and the apex.
The M2 looked pretty cool, kept the intake temps down, but if you havn't noticed its rather expensive for just an intake. I've also heard that there are only a few front mount intercoolers that will fit with the M2.
so, I currently have the apex, I like it. True, it does suck in the hot engine bay air, but I plan to have a FMIC and a vented hood by summer so those should offset the temps.
The main reason I went with an apex is because all of the FMICs I like won't fit with the M2.

I'm running apexi power intakes on my FD, and I'm loving it so far. I plan on fabricating a heat shield to keep the intake temps down. The apexi filters are exceptional units! For what you pay for them, they absolutly cannot be beat. The look is great too. Overall, I think apexi is an excellent brand. I have 3 of their products on my car now, and I look forward to installing more in the future!

I have the Pettit Intake system on my car and I like the performance side of it, at least compared to my HKS Mega-Flow on my other car, but I think it is an ugly kit. The heat shield is cheaply made and the foam on the top, even though it has function, is ugly as hell when you pop the hood. It just looks cheap. I also don't like using the stock intake pipes. I plan on selling mine and going Apex'i.

Anyone have a good picture of the Apex'i kit installed on their 7?? I wish i could buy just the filters and fabricate my own pipes. i might just buy a pair of aerospeed filters and throw them on the stock piping . I have badly worn K&N's on there now, so i gotta change them...

Spend the money once and do it right, get the M2 or rx7fashion. Stay away from the FMIC unless you live in a cold region and don't ever plan to track the car, other than an occasional drag race. RX-7s have a tendency to get really hot real quick with FMIC blocking the already taxed radiator.

What are your long term plans for the car? If you are planning to stick with the twins, don't get an FMIC. You will lose primary boost due to pressure drop. If you are intending to go single, you might benefit from a FMIC. There are quite a few long termers on here that use a medium or large SMIC with a single and it works quite well. Go check out Max Cooper's site for a very well modded car.

The Apex units will not work with the majority of upgraded SMICs, probably would work with the GReddy, but not the M2s or upgrade SMIC like at the RX-7 Store.
Also, depending on your emissions requirements, be aware that an aftermarket intake may fail the visual.
I have the old aluminum M2. Because of the visual on emissions inspection and my Apex doesn't physically fit (in its current form with my upgraded SMIC).
