Question intake opinions

I have a stock fd with some small relibility mods. I am looking to gain some power and thinking about buying a intake. Right now I am leaning towards apexi intake, just because I have used some of their product before and because the price is really great on it.
feel free to tell me your opinions on intake,
which one is better?
Thanks

theres a lot out there.. Are you looking for a single filter or double?

If your comparing i reckon the apexi kit is better than the HKS. From what Mahjik has recently told me the HKS isnt even washable!!!

i really can't beleive the price they ask for those intakes. especially considering how easy it is to make up your own. plenty of 'how to' on here, even a great template for a heat sheild.

I like the hks best only because it has less restriction of air yeah the down side is that it does not filter the air as good as the apexi, but if you think about it there are some people running with no filters, and also have you heard of anybody blowing their tubos due to non-filtered air, thats my choice is the one with less restriction and more airflow which the HKS provides..IMHO..

Remember the goal is to get as much air into the turbos and not less air...

I use the Apexi Intake on my MR2 Turbo, same filter as on the FD's, and among all the intake filters tested on the MR2, the Apexi provided the most filtration, airflow and was the easiest to clean.

Whats everyones opinion on the M2 carbon intake? I know its pricey...but cold air induction is FAR better than just getting as much air into the motor as possible...

I used to have a Corrado VR6 with an open intake, and it actually LOST power over the stock intake, even though it flowed quite a bit more air...granted it wasnt a turbo car, its still the same principal.

I would rather go for the ARC induction intake box. ARC has been around for many many years building quality products in Japan. It is little expensive but with ARC Intake, you can get the performance and maintain the clean modified look under the hood.

There are already so many threads open about the pros/cons of each intake. You could just as easily search for this info. Just an FYI.

Since you live in California, why not have an intake that will pass smog, and provide high performance. Modify your stock intake with my Cheap Bastard Intake kit for $70.

I'm so predictable

I endorse Adam C's type of cold air intake mod to the stock box.

One of my mechanics did a Dyno test of an M2 intake with M2 medium mount SMIC versus stock intake with K&N replacement filter and Greddy SMIC and guess what?

The dyno to the wheels with everything else constant was nearly identical.

I think the difference was a whooping 2HP which could have been any number of variables such as temps during that day, if the engine has been heat soak, and even the dyno could have some sort of deviation.

Bottom line, I don't see the value of aftermarket intakes.

The only real benefit to an aftermarket intake is more room in the engine bay. The actual power gains are not very significant as the stock FD intake system is very efficient.

There are also many people who believe that the hot air intake systems shorten air pump life as well.

Just a few things to keep in mind.

Adam C do you have pictures of your "cheap bastard intake"? I've heard good things about it and everyone who has one seems to advocate it. Just curious what this thing looks like.

What do yous think of the dual HKS J-Spec intakes with polished pipes or the Greddy RE intake kit?

Those are the two I like in looks but cant decide which is a better option.

There are a few pics on this thread:

This link might work:

The shield in this pic is one of the first ones I made. I have made some improvements since then. The shape, fit and finish are better now.
