Intake Ideas...

I have a single turbo setup with all the old stuff taken out n whatnot. Any suggestions as to an idea for an intake I could do to help get cold air into the motor? I hava front mount intercooler as well. Thx.

you know, I don't think it matters too too much if you aren't pulling in cold air. You have much more room in the engine bay with a single turbo (runs cooler) and you have a FMIC that cools the air enough to where a CAI is pretty much worthless.

But if you still want some cold air, I would just extend an air filter away from the turbo and use some flex tubing to route from bumper openings towards the filter.

It actually matters quite a lot... colder in = colder out. Also a CAI is the only thing that prevents your intercooler from heat soaking (if you have an FMIC). If you are pulling used radiator air into your turbo then sending it to the intercooler while you are sitting still, you heat soak the intercooler from the inside out. Just take a look at intercooler inlet temps. With a lack of forward motion your intercooler has very little efficiency. Also turbos are less efficient with hotter intake air, but that is another story.

Easier said than done if you have dual oil coolers and a front mount. There is a lack of space to actually pull cool air from. This is what lead me down the path to my solution, but it is a bit extreme. We had to remount the radiator, build mounting points for the filter, duct the radiator and plumb the tubing to the intake.

I dont know how you would do it if you had a large front mount.

Personally.. I don't think it makes too much difference unless you are looking to maximize efficiency of your turbo for maximum HP.. Most cases, your turbo will heat up the air sucking in and its your IC that cools it back down.. few degrees aren't going to make much difference for most of us on this forum.. Most of you don't run your car to FULL potential anyhow.. including me.. If you are, then you shouldn't be worrying about air temp, you should be worrying about tuning to maximize HP or reliability..

I would put a filter just to get cleaner air.. But alot of single people just put a mesh.

Before getting into FDs, i was seriously considerng an S2000. There was a thread on s2ki.com that delt with turbo kits that put the filter right on the compressor and how once it was moved farther away it made a ton more power...and i found it =)

I saw a guy with an FC that had an FD engine in it with a single turbo. He had a trombone-like extension off of the compressor housing into the passenger corner of his engine bay. It was very unique and appears to be very effecient, but it was ugly as hell...

i was thinking of cutting a hole in my floor pan, and making a duct that would push a little cool air twards the intake and the turbos. now that i think of it...i might be able to make an exit for the hot air after it cools things

i think that extending the pipe to wear you could fit it would be the best idea. You could extend it underneath the front bumper. I personally wouldnt do that but its an idea.

Well I dont run an intercooler and my post turbo temps are close to what people see post intercooler in their setups, almost specifically because I have a true cold air induction. I was at a dyno in CA with a guy running stock twins to 12psi with a Greddy SMIC. I was running my T04e to 15psi without an intercooler. I had 2 degree C cooler intake temps (without my W/I turned on), AND my IAT didn't heat soak like his did.

My setup (dirty car)...

What is that suppose to mean? You tell me why it isn't effective? I will have hard data to prove how well it works here in the near future.
