intake idea bad or good

I was thinking of cutting a hole in the bottom of the air box to let more air in is this a bad idea since the radiator is right below will i gain anything:scratch. Tell me what you think.

if you make a duct you can make it work. lots have people have done this. do a search for airbox mods or something along those lines. you'll find a lot.

Did it

Hi, I did it, and it worked like a charm.
I was impressed with the change in response and performance for such a little change (cut a hole, made a "duct" to the side of the rad, dropped in a K&N, and... Fantastic!
I used the "even cheaper bastard air intake mod" and I would recommend it to anybody with stock intake. I have now moved to PFS intake and SMIC

Thumbs up

I ran my stock airbox this way for several years and was happy. I don't have to worry about it where I live, but it's especially good for folks in states with emission testing/visual inspection.

If you do so, try to avoid that the filter sucks up hot air from the radiator.

Good luck!

One of THE best intake mods, actually. I did it years ago, ran a little duct made from a hose used to bring hot air off an exhaust manifold to carburetors...you know, that silvery flexible-but-stiff hose. With a bit of perseverance you can form the 'front' end of it into an oblong shape that JUST fits beside the radiator and the frame rail, so it snarfs nice cold air right from the front of the car. An added benefit to this is you avoid the known problem of air reversion thru the splitter, the piece that 'splits' air between the intercooler and stock air box. In certain circumstances air will flow BACKWARDS thru the intercooler and into the airbox...NOT good.
Cutting a hole in the bottom adds CFM capacity thru the box.
