CA Intake and Exhaust questions.

Hey guys, sorry if this has been answered before. Is it true that if I free up the air to the turbos as in new intake, precat, exhaust. I would have to remap or get a new ecu? Thanks a lot guys, i love this forum

I'll answer your question before someone bash into your thread.

There is basically a "Rule of 3" flow mod before you need to tune/remap/ecu. Ex: intake, downpipe, cat-back. I would keep the main cat out of this "Rule" if i where you. And using a boost controller to keep the stock 10psi boost.

Some says that as long as you can control the boost to 10psi, you won't run lean (need a tune/remap/ecu)

Yes and no....

Modifying the airflow of the car, can increase the amount of boost the car can provide. Using a remapped/upgraded ECU can provide safety for the increased boost. However, modifications to the airflow can also make it difficult to control the limit of the boost. If the airflow increases so much that it overwhelms the stock wastegate, even a remapped/upgraded ECU cannot help.

In short, it all depends on being able to control your boost. If you can control the boost, then using a remapped/upgraded ECU with airflow modifications is just fine.

You'll see the post is several years old. You'll find that a lot on the forum, so get used to http://www.archive.org if you want to view them:

This is a link to the 3rd gen archives. It will answer most of the questions you are asking on here. There are PAGES of very worthy reading material. If I were you (and I once was new on here too) just try and start knocking out a few threads a day. Don't just rush through them to convince yourself you read them. Stop, take a few minutes and think about what is discussed in each thread. What the problem was, avenues that we tried to correct a problem, and then what actually corrected the problem and why. The more effort you put into UNDERSTANDING what is going on with this car the better off you will be.

I hope I am not coming off as rude, I definately do not mean to. Good luck with your studying and welcome to the RX7 community.
