Installed Short-shifter and KG Diff Brace

And the car feels gooooood.

I definitely hear a noise that wasnt there before but the car seems to sit down and go under WOT. There is a stiffness that is hard to describe. A thumbs up for the brace from me so far.

The shifter is a B&M. Although it is completely different than the stock shifter I felt completely comfortable with it on the first test drive. Big difference in the shifts but easy to adjust to - alot easier than I thought it would be.

The work continues....

On your site, I see a picture of some brake rotors. Are those the Brembo cross-drilled and slotted rotors from rx7store.net? I need some new front rotors and I've been looking at those... how do you like them?

The fronts are a wilwood superlite kit. The rears are slotted and dimpled (not drilled). If you plan on doing any high performance driving everyone says dont get cross-drilled. I like the look of the crossdrilled and was able to keep the look without the sacrafice. I am very happy with them so far.

It was a very tight fit. I think it may rub but havent heard anything from inside the car. I will give it a day or 2 and I will look for some evidence of rubbing. I have the n-tech high flow cat with a M2 dual catback (3" mandral all the way).

As far as the brace goes I never had wheel hop except at the track so I wont know that was fixed for a while. But traction does seem better in first at WOT. I also put the mazdaspeed shift **** on tonight and I like it alot better than the momo I had on since it screws directly to shifter instead of allen pins.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know about that website. Those look like the best deal I've seen so far. Thanks again.

Yeah, it was one of the better mods that I put in my car(the KG Brace). One thing I have gripes with though is the vibrations at HIGH rpms (5K+).

The noise goes away after a few weeks... it's strange. Like the brace settles in place over a few weeks. I don't even hear mine anymore. Made a world of difference for me .

I dont notice any difference between 2-7K.. There is a noise/vibration but it is the same all the time. I will pay more attention today and see if I am wrong about mine.

Just a few questions:
Who was it that sold the diff braces on this forum? How much did it cost you with shipping? Did it come with bolts or any type of vibration dampening (ie. rubber washers)?

I bought this one a longtime ago from Keith - just have had it on the to do list for a while. It didnt come with anything other than the brace.

I have no idea what the kit from the rx7 store has(it is the same brace but may have more).

I was thinking about using some leftover polyeurothane when I do my DIY engine mounts to make washers but I may postpone the project. (Sitting in my garage waiting for me to do).

Does the brace cause excessive rattle?

The brace that the RX7Store sells is basically what Keith sells, it JUST comes with the brace. All the hardware you need is already on your car.

The bolts are already somewhat short with the brace on -- if you used bushings, you would need longer bolts up front (where the crossbrace used to be). If you replace the bolts, you would probably be able to put some bushings there.

I had high vibrations at high rpms at first, too... It turned out to be from the torque brace, not the diff brace. My torque brace was such that it pulled the engine to the passenger side (VERY slightly). This combined with the diff brace caused high vibrations the higher rpms. I put the torque brace so that it doen't put ANY load on the engine and instantly had no more vibrations. The car is tight and smooth through 8k .

Fd3BOOST... I daily drive my car and am pretty **** about vibrations. There are hardly any from this brace. The only noticed noise is that you can hear the gears in the diff spinning as the noise gets transmitted from the diff through the car. Over time, this goes away, I have no idea why (maybe I'm just used to it ). It's hardly noticable at any rate... the brace truely makes the whole car drive amazing.

I have both and the car feels good now. I never got any noise like a lot of people complain about from the shifter. I guess im lucky. When i first installed the brace, the car vibrated like a mother. We installed some new pillow ***** and i think this helped it out. It also could have been because my ppf was bent and cracked. Everything is great now, oh yeah, except that now the motors blown! The only thing left to break on this car after the turbos, the ppf, and the motor is the freaking tranny. (knock on wood) Everything else was replaced because it was worn out or preventitive maintanance.

Thanks, I don't mind noises. I have eurothene motor mounts which are loud. Plus for some reason the mazdaspeed shift **** I use transmits tranny noise to the cabin. I used to have a tranny brace and it was god awful with the rattle. Anyway thanks, it sounds like I will buy one of Kieths baces one day soon. Oh and thanks for spelling my screen name correctly, that almost never happens.

Anybody else have this brace and can comment on vibrations? Just ordered mine and I don't want any necessarily loud vibrations expecially when im taking a chick out or something. lol BTW, what is the weight of this thing? 10 lbs or so right?

yeah the one from www.rx7store.net and www.Gothamracing.com are the same. you can also get them directly from me at www.KGParts.com
there is going to be a special offer through me on diff braces for buyers of the R85 turbo kit.... more info on that soon.

yeah, maybe i will start to supply longer replacement bolts with it.... i was thinking of putting a counter bore there like the diff side, but if bushings are not needed/installed, they (oem bolts) may be a little long. i will have to play with that. i never needed anything inbetween, and that would also make it hang lower than the oem cross. brace.

I had my brace machined to reduce the weight, damn thing was simply way too heavy. Would post a pic but the forum woun't upload it, POS forum server.

The brace did not transmit any vibrations, just noise. It is subtle, and if your exhaust is very loud you may not notice it at all. My entire hatch area is coated with dynamat or dynashield spray-on so YMMV.

I also had to readjust the TB after diff brace install.

I have noticed the same thing about the shifter- there is a noice of gears transmitted to it and you can hear it even more when your hand is on it.

Though I dont think it is limited to the mazdaspeed one. I have been in other cars with the short shifter and I got the same thing with different shift *****. Still not enough to keep me from using it.

wow, you machined the brace to reduce weight yet you have your entire hatch area covered with dynomat! Tell me where this makes any sence?
