Installed ATR Downpipe and Midpipe today.

Wow are my arms tired. Its went well but the stud on the top rear is not in. Everything else it tight and hooked up. The hardest part was lining up the midpipe to the Greddy SP cat back. What a pain. The holes didnt line up so I used the car jack to lift it and move one site of the catback to fit. Then I hammered the bolt in and voila. That seemed liek the hardest part. Maybe because I was so tired from everything else. The gasket between the turbos and the downpipe was hard to line up. Wouldnt have been bad if I had 3 arms. The fit was awesome. No problems with the downpipe or the downpipe to Midpipe. Stainless all the way from turbos to tailpipe! The 02 sensor was easy to change once I had the precat out. I ordered a Bosch heated sensor and it looks much easier to change now on the downpipe even while its on. The Tone changed alot. The sound is a little louder but not as loud as I had thought with the straight through midpipe. All in all it wasnt hard. 3studs came out right off the bat and the other I had to re thread the nut onto and then draw it out. Changed out some brittle hoses I had ordered and went for a quick spin. Didnt get on it much cause my APex PFC hasnt arrived yet. Got an M2 intake and intercooler coming so I will post how that goes next time. One trick that made getting the Top back stud off the precat. There isnt much room so I used a Breaker bar and with its swivel head and compact design it made quick work of it. I will put the back stud in when I have some patience. after 4 hours of work I wanted it to be over.

Hey thanks. I thought 4 hours was a long time. I had the Precat and main cat off within 1 1/2. I bet it took me all of an hour to just put the Catback to midpipe bolts in. I havnt worked on the Rx-7 much except plugs and brakes but it went better than I had expected. I used to work on Diesels when I was in the service and I remeber how you just had to man handle **** to make it work. This job wasnt the worst I had done. I rate it a 6 on the hard scale. Looks like the Intercooler and intake will be cake. I had the stock airbox out and didnt want to put it back in but I had to take the car for a ride. You know how it is. Anyone done the radiator? How hard was that? I am thinking of going with the Koyo. Thanks for the thumbs up.

The radiator isn't difficult. You have to pull the IC and air box. Hell, may as well get one and do it all at once seeing as how you're going to be be pulling the IC and air box anyway.

I've heard a couple people complain about fitment issues with the Koyo. My Fluidyne fit right in, no problems whatsoever.

I hope you've done something with your fuel system to acommodate all this extra air.

cool man! any boost creepage?? what kind of ECU you runnin?? it seems to me that you are still on the stock ECU since you just got the dp/mp, and had a cat back before, and most people dont get an ECU after one mod.

i would recomend that you dont get on it too much before the PFC. full exhaust on a stock ECU is kinda pushin it.

good luck!

Well I went with the Apexi PFC. As soon as it arrives I will be pluggin it in. The M2 Intake and Intercooler are on thier way as well. I would liek to know where the PFC is. I ordered it with the group buy a few weeks ago. Guess its just slow getting to NH. Anyways I have a laundry list of Mods and I do plan to do some other fuel system upgrades such as fuel pump and possibly some larger secondary injectors. I figure 1200cc secondaries? Tell me what you guys think. Does anyone ever upgrade the primaries? I want to run 15psi so you guys ring in with some comments.

unless you are running a crazy setup, with a very aggressively ported engine and monster turbo (in which your case you are not) i would advise against running larger primaries. the reason being is that they will cause you to run rich at low RPMs and make your car run kinda shitty, even with proper tuning.

1200 or 1300 secondaries with a new fuel pump is more than enough to support 450 RWHP with good tuning.

I like the Koyo for price but fitment is a huge issue. What about quality? How do they compare? Fuidyne and Koyo? As far as fuel goes. I also want to keep my options open for a single turbo set up. I plan to natuarlly progress to the T04E. So I want the injectors I chose to be used for that application as well. What fuel pump you guys using? I am thinking about the Nippondenso unit. I think Ray Lockheed sells a bunch of fuel pumps and injectors. Also I need a lead on some Maps for the PFC when it arrives.

Hello Mike,

I've seen the Fluidyne and the person had very minor fitment issues. The Fluidyne has better construction, seemed thicker than the Koyo. I liked the M2 rad. As for the Nippondenso fuel pump, it was an exact fit. Ray said it flows about 25% more, i believe at stock pressures. I haven't noticed either way any effects, with the install of the pump and the PFC, but I guess it is better that way. I will definitely install a fuel gauge.
Are you planning to get the PFC tuned with all those mods? I would get it dyno tuned if possible, or at least send it to XS here in California so they can change the base map; that way you will be more accurate.
