the inside of th eexhaust is WHITE

i'm looking at buying another FD it belongs to a guy i met at an auto-x when i had my CYM, he says he has tuned it for hours to get the A/F perfect and the inside of his exhaust is white, no oil or extra gas, here is a link to his car for sale with mods, but i dont think all of the mods are listed https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=87017

what do you guys think of this, is it safe?

Well, you can buy many nice rx-7's for 19k. As with any RX, you have to do a compression test, boost test, test the a/f ratios and so on.... I'm not 100% sure, but i think white crud means it has been running lean which is not a good sign. I would pull a plug and see if it is caked white as well? Look for compression #'s @ 8 or higher for both rotors. I just purchased an FD w/ a bad secondary turbo for 11.5k w/ 60k and good compression. It had the following mods upon purchase: dp, cb, pettit ast, relocated battery, power FC, fluidyne radiator, apexi intake, turbo timer, boost gauge, A/F guage, efini y pipe, aluminum intercooler piping, greddy elbow. This car is in super good condition inside out.. I got the turbos fixed and now have an awesome car for <13K Check out the pictures http://www.barefootcarpetsinc.com/newrx

Could white stuff on the inside be condensed/crystallized coolant mix? If you've ever seen a car with a leaking water pump, you'll know what I mean.....

Just a wild possibility.

You see that on a lot of cars at the track. It seems to appear when you run the car hard for a while. Perhaps the dyno tuning was the cause, or just that the car isn't running pig rich and sooting it up on the street. It could also be running lean, but if the engine is healthy it is probably okay.

The white is usually when the car is running high octane fuel. WHen I drag race I run my car with 110octane or higher. It turns the inside of my exhaust COMPLETELY white. Maybe he was using high octane fuel when he was tuning on the dyno. Thats the only time I have ever seen the exhaust turn white.
At $5-$6 gallon, not too many people use it, only the more serious racers.

Race gas causes that. Don't know if coolant can do it or not.

the car is mine and he has not even talked (seriously) about buying it! i only run the car at track events ( auto crossing) or very rarely at vir (road coarse) and i do mix 93 octane with 104 when i run it hard. the compression is 8.5 on all sides except one which is 8.4. i told you man we can have every thing checked. anyways still for sale.
